Also known as: Drift Wagon, and The Wagon of Doom

In 2004 this car was headed for the local Pick-N-Pull, but was purchased by a friend's dad juussst before it headed though the gates of no return. He drug it home and let it sit in his garage for the next 3 years.

In the spring of 2007 he decided it was time for the Benz to go in order to make room for a new 6x6, Isuzu diesel, Land Rover project. I agreed to purchase the car for $1000 on the condition that I recieve it in good enough condition to drive it from his house to mine (~10 miles). So in July, I putted my was home in this 1983 300TD with...
-new master cylinder
-new booster
-new pads
-new Bosch battery
-extra front seats
-NIB headlight doors
-NIB hood pad
-lots of misc extra trim and dash wood

The day I brought it homeSadNote the windows down because they didn't work)
[Image: 25698_10100249041934844_8340733_62812365_2393856_n.jpg]

Over the next two months the car recieved a thourough cleaning (mostly inside), winshield, valve adjustment, and all the other regular 617 tune up stuff.

In September 07, tragedy struck. After a hard day of Auto-X, the engine developed a severe bottom end knock. The engine was pulled and she went into the garage for the next year and a half as school, life and FSAE took over my time. After graduating in May 09, I vowed to get the Benz back on the road before I started work in June. $450 later I had another engine and trans, cleaned it up, installed and met my deadline.

Throughout the next year (09-10) I decided to bring the front down 3 coils and add CLK wheels, bringing the car to this point...
[Image: 7230_10100116759639624_8340733_57882236_826379_n.jpg]

Since then I've been daily driving the wagon and auto-xing and drag racing (HA) on the weekends.

Future Plans:
I recently scored a mega-deal on a LQ4 (GM 6.0L V8). I'm now looking for a T56. Initial measurements indicate this combination will fit.
I have also acquired a set of BBS RS wheels in 16x8.5 and 16x9 and am working towards making them fit.

Thanks to everyone out there reading.

Any recommended tire/size combinations?

I got the twin to your car but mine was an import from France Smile

I stay on the dirt/gravel the w123 is perfect just needs more power. The weight of the fuel tank down low really helps Wink

Nice! I havent done an autocross in a long time. Just did a Rallycross last weekend though. My brother and I beat the crap out of a first gen Subaru Legacy wagon in the dirt. 3 bald tires and a donut spare on the right rear! Quick times were NOT the order of the day, but we had a great time and amazingly didn't finish last! Your wagon looks good dodgin cones! Smile

82 300SD aka The Flyin Pumpkin (Gone): 7.5mm super M-pump, T3 60 trim turbo, Coldish air intake, A/W intercooler, propane injection, SW Boost and EGT gauges, Monark 265 nozzles, ported/polished cylinder head.

84 Euro 300D 4 sp: White with black trunk and hood. Blue cloth interior. Manual everything. 300DT front swaybar. C320 17" wheels. Now with the Flyin Pumpkins engine!

In the 2nd photo above (parked) I'm running 16x7 ET37 CLK 320 wheels with no spacers and 205/55/16 Michelin MXV4 tires.

In the 3rd photo (auto-x) you are seeing a mismatched set of off-brand 195/60/14s on bundts.

Eventually I'll be adding these:
[Image: 18564_10100197966420584_8340733_61060961_2398015_n.jpg]
F:16x8.5 ET22 (needs spacers) 205/55/16
R:16x9 ET21 likely 225/??/16
I have'nt quite settled on tires for these yet.

Heck yes! That is the way to do it. I'm not bringing home the trophies, but I sure generate plenty of smiles. Thanks for the compliments.

I love how low the wagon sits!
Have you done any more mods recently? Or autoX events??
Do you have the manual tranny mated to the 617?
Did you gut the interior for weight?

Thanks! Since it is my daily and one of several projects, I haven't changed anything in a while. The next phase of this car will be to find a stiffer rear sway bar and stiffer set of rear springs. I want major oversteer!

The results of this weekend's AX can be found here:

This roll just won't do any longer.

Theres some good info on springs in this post.
Might help you figure out a set of semi-stiffer springs.
