I am going to have my exhaust redone from the flex pipe to the tail pipe, considering the current project I am taking suggestions from the group as to what you would you run if it were yours. Keep in mind I want to run a muffler to keep the drone down.

I have 4" exhaust on my truck, straight through (here kitty kitty)Big Grin and it drones on the freeway, but I love the sound of the turbo cause it sing sing sings.

Your help is appreciated...

1982 300SD: 304,xxx Super M-pump with 7.5mm elements, 265 Nozzles, GT35 water cooled turbo, M90 Supercharger, A/W Intercooler, Serpentine drive belt, 3" SS exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, 240 breather, AEM dry Filter, Manual Boost Control, EGT / Boost / EMP gauges....Moved on to other projects

1995 F-350 7.3L PSD: 230,xxx 6.0 IC, DIY Stage 1 Injectors, 17* hpop, Tony Wildman Chip, John Wood Trans, 6.4L TC, 3" down pipe, 4" straight exhaust, 310 HP on wheel dyno - 8500# dually: 0-60 in 6.98

Suzuki Samurai: VW 1.9L TD, Trackick doubler transfer case (made by me) 5.8:1 transfer case gears, YJ springs front and rear with rear missing links, wheel base extended 14", diffs welded, some day a VNT.

The stock resonator and muffler are a straight through design, I'd just cut off the center resonator or back muffler. Aftermarket mufflers wouldn't be any better unless you go with a 3" system.

My original exhaust had the kidneys, which I removed and I added a straight through pipe to the OEM muffler.

I kind of wanted to complete the "performance" package to this project...

300HP is 300HP whether it's the 7.3 or the 3.0, it's processing about the same amount of air. I'd go a minimum of 3" since it's not working as hard as the truck engine.

I think I'm going 4" with an Aeroturbine muffler designed for Diesels but the jury's still out on that...

1998 MB E300 - 194,000 miles. Current/future mods: 7.5mm pump elements, Holset HX40 Turbo feeding Eaton M90 supercharger through custom fabbed intake system. Aeroturbine muffler, scratch-built 4" stainless exhaust. EGR eliminated, ECM recalibrated, modified rack position feedback circuit. Porterfield RS brake pads, Bilstein sport shocks, VDO EGT, oil and boost gauges.

2000 Ford F250 - 150,000 miles. Current/future mods: DP Tuner 3 map chip, scratch-built high flow intake, high output IDM, open circuit fuel system, ball bearing turbo, South Bend full metal clutch, slotted and drilled rotors. Autometer Sport Comp EGT and boost gauges.

(03-16-2010, 05:17 AM)E300TSC 300HP is 300HP whether it's the 7.3 or the 3.0

But the torque and RPM at that 300hp is very different.

I have a question.. Whats the exhaust output flange size on your turbocharger? Why don't you just use that all the way back for the least restriction?

Like since I am using a 300TD W124 Down Pipe, for my stock engine install (I have a long list before Twin-Charger comes up haha.). I'm going to just use the 2.5" ( I think thats what it is ) all the way back. I don't think there would be any decrease in back pressure if your going from a 2.5" down pipe to a 4" particulate filter-back. But It wouldn't be nice to go from a 4" down pipe to a 2.5" exhaust.

I'd have an exhaust shop fab up a straight system, no muffler, from the turbo to the back of the car. If you decide you want a muffler, carefully cut the back pipe and you can have an interchangeable system, though a 3" straight through muffler wouldn't be much more restriction, and with a twin-charged 617a...well I'm assuming cutting a few bucks out isn't top of the list. I do agree, though, if you're not doing the downpipe, just remove the resonator. 4" would be stupid, a 300hp PS is making, what, 600lb ft? If not more? That's a better indicator of the airflow, meanwhile a 617a would be more like 450lb ft at 300hp. Aside from how the hell you're going to get a 4" system under a unibody car that never had a performance variant from the factory...

Besides, 3", a shop's like ok, that's a bit more...4", leave your wallet and come back in a while.
