Hi.

I`ve just bought a 1993 E 250 Diesel that won`t start.

The car have 531 000 km on the odometer.

It is coming pure diesel with no Airbubbles from pre-pump, trough main filter and to de injection-pump.
But no diesel comes out from the injection pump.

I`m hoping for some trouble with the stop-actuator, tried to pull off the hose, but can something happen inside the actuator?
What would happen if I remove the vacuum stop actuator?

I know about misposting, it just seems to be far more people in the tuning-forum, so I hope this tread can be here for some days, I know it`s many people that know a lot abot Diesel injection pumps here

glow plugs?
then compression test.
I don't believe it's the stop actuator.

I have found out something.

It is something with the stop actuator, nothing happened when i pulled the hose, but I found the "old" emergency stop, a 6mm wrench, pulled it upwards carefully, it suddenly loosened, and the injectors get diesel, when I mount the vacuum hose and turn off the ignition it`s stuck again.

But the engine will not start now either.
The glowplug light works as it shoud, but 1 plug is defect, the glow-plugs gets powered as they should, but weird that the glowplug light does not show defect plug.

Compression is not checked, I think about remowing the intake manifold tomorrow, and maybe the valvecover to check camshaft.

depending on the pre owner activities on the car it can be everything.
Unplugging the vac hose on the stop actuator means it will not stop with the ignition key.
Make sure the stop lever on the IP is in the correct position and keep the vac hose unplugged for testing.
Try to support the start with starting spray or carb cleaner. Once it starts up it should run if fuel supply is o.k.
Does the starter turn fast enough?
Do you get fuel to the injectors while cranking?
Any information about "repairs" before you got the car or did the car not start from one day to the other? When did the engine run for the last time?
My choice is still glow plugs and compression.

It will not start on starting gas, It`s a difference, but not quite there.

I believe that the engine would not start ca 1.1.2010, then they looked at it, but gave up very fast, because it was a bit cold, -30*C, now it`s only -10*C, they only disassembled the intake pipe over the head.

I`m going to remove the intake manifold and the valvecover today I think.

The injectors get fuel, they did`nt before.

Please don't do that. Its not helping anything and you risk severe engine damage with every use.

I Dont usually use it, bt sometimes it`s a great tool for elimination of faults.

Not really, there are plenty of tests to diagnose a non-starting engine that don't risk blowing out the headgasket or cracking a piston.

Don`t use starting gas. Use Brake Cleaner, or carburettor cleanes. Its act the same, but much, much smoother, and you will not destroy your engine.

I hqave found something mere wrong, I have a broken intake camshaft, will pull off the valvecover to check for damages, exhaust cam and timing.

The engine seems to have one broken camshaft(intake), two bent valves(intake cylinder 5) and a stuck stop actuator.
I Think I`m going to buy a complete new(used) cylinder head, and just change it.

The camshaft timing seems to be 5* after the crankshaft.

I believe it`s more on my TDT with 427 000 km on the odometer.
Feel free to move this to mainteance now :-)
