Compound om605 - mini project
Compound om605 - mini project
Hi guys.
So I was in a little accident 6-weeks ago and have been falling back on everything really. Crashed a friends bike in the side of a car and got five fractures. Broke my right ankle pretty bad and got three fractures in my right hand.
To celebrate me coming back to full speed I hooked a manifold build for an awesome guy in England.
We're gonna build a compound setup for him and the pictures and information I will post in this thread
If you like the idea and later on the pictures and text, PLEASE drop a comment so the thread lives to see another day.
This will maybe be THE fastest om605 in the UK. Only the owner will know.
(we have maybe three weeks till we can start the build so be patient please)
For more awesome stuff check out my Facebook-link below
Compound OM 605 ??? YES !!!!!!!
Thanks guys
I will start taking photos as soon as I have the time. One of the turbos have arrived so info about this is close by.
Today I have a picture for you
It's a 3LD and a HX52 but the 3LD might be swapped for a HX30 but we'll see.
Fras you gona install some serious waste gating around the HX30? The hot side on those is only 6cm isn't it.
You think a Hy35 is too big for good spool on that 605?
Beers.

So how is the plan exactly how you want them to work?

Hx30 6cm and hx40 18cm hx40 in stamsaas build works, but hx30 is big bottle neck
Paul's hx35 12cm and hx52 16cm om606 is working good but high bacpressure due to hx35 turbine and housing
Love the input guys. We'll see what happens with this setup
I'll try to keep you posted
Did a little freshen up on the HX52 yesterday and now it looks like something I actually can use in this build.

I actually don't know. He messaged me through the webshop. But hey shoot me a message and we'll see what I can do for you.

Nailed it
IDK about that particular RS2 turbo but the one fitted to the 4.5l international engine found in the Ford LCF is K16/K27 and makes 200hp on that engine. It's probably the largest of the RS2 variants and would not make a fire-breathing STD.
Where do you guys get get info on these bw turbos?
I am trying to find a map for the k14 that came stock on an om606, but no luck so far.
Will be a Dieselmeken 8mm for this project. More info later... Started to mock up the turbos yesterday. Damn there is a lack of space with that big ass hx52

(11-30-2015, 08:34 AM)Hario It's in a W202?
Yea it's in a w202 Right now we have millimeters to spare and it's just so super tight. But we'll manage, will post a couple of pictures in a day or two...

The r2s units are often compound sequential with the tiny hp turbo. User Turbo here seems to be familiar with them.
It seems the controls are not at all straightforward with a compressor bypass for the hp turbo also
I posted a document with the various r2s setups and their applications. Industrial motors v light passenger vs commercial truck all have different optimal twin turbo relationships.
Best advice seems to be use a HP turbo that works well as a single, with a slightly larger exhaust housing. The big turbo can have a wastegate. The small turbo exists in a high pressure room created by the big one.
So guys, here is a sneak peak for you. Not done in a million years but you get the picture anyhow,
On this and the next picture you can see the water cut support bracket we did for the hx52
When it's all welded up and the 4" stainless downpipe is in it's place it will be a pretty sweet setup.

It's time consuming to say the least. We'll see where it ends up.

Is why I am thinking HY35 which is 9cm2 for the HP. With big 60mm gate around it, referencing EGP (so it opens and bypasses to LP as the HY turbine starts to become a bottleneck, set through trial and error).
Choosing the correct turbines and compressors seems like the hardest part. seems like opening the 60mm high pressure wastegate could drop the drive enough that the small turbo boost goes down before the large turbo spools. So you could get a bad power curve very easily.

Ok, but it seems hard to analyze the dynamic behavior of a 60mm wastegate opening up.
The Stamsaas car got sold, jeemu build 605 didn't work. Do we actually have have a single dyno plot from a compound turbo 606? Maybe the second one EDH mentioned.
