bmw e28 with tds(m51)
bmw e28 with tds(m51)
an outher dutchie is signing in! i have been reading and learing on this forum for a while but i think its time to put my project on this wall amoung all these epic oil burners.
why m51? well stock my beamer had a m21 but those heads tend to break and thier pritty costly and hard to come by.
and not to offend you guys but a benz engine into a bmw didn't seem like a good idea.
i have tried a lot of stuf but currently i am running a hx35 with a 12mm(cummins) plunger pump. this winter i will build a compound setup with a td04-13 hp and the hx35 as the lp turbo.

12mm vs stock 10mm plunger
bigass china cooler

A Dutch diesel meet sounds great!
Offroaddiesel I am not sure what to make of your reply, if I am posting in the wrong section I would have been told bye now. You know a ridiculous amount about rotarys, and my methods may seem a bit unorthodox, but I always have my pumps tested afther a major overhaul. Big diameter rotary pumps might be far fetched on a rather high reving straight six. But I am sertain I can make it work!
I love the e28 and yours looks great.
Have you thought about going to an inline pump?
Does the hx35 make good pressure on this engine? What rpms do you rev to?
I am still considering a inline pump. With an oilfilter modification and some minor machining it should work.
I'm reving to 6200rpm I have been to 6500 but it think that's a bit to harsh on stock valve springs. Even tough the engine apparently is made for high back pressure(stock turbo only has a 4cm turbine housing)
The hx35 gives usable boost at 2500rpm and you can forget about it in first.

putting the compound on hold for the moment, maby i will try staged(bypassing the high pressure turbine) but i have found a good turbo that should be able to push to 300hp.
i pulled the old sump, she had 400,000kms of witch the last where some hard ones.
the pump is currently to a dutch tractor puller, so i can get the 12mm rotor head to work properly.
i bought a low mile m51 from a opel omega altough the engines are prity much the same the valve springs where quit diffrent!
at full lift the bmw valve springs had 80kg of force where the opel ones had only 55, obviously i switched these over.
currently waiting on some small parts, the plan will be to scaring priuses in may.
