just bought a 99 e300td...
Bought a complete car, rusted out, but everything is there and I even got to hear it run
The idea is to put the engine into my w126 rod bender as it has started to burn oil
I'd like to do a straight swap before getting a big pump/turbo, etc.
If I want to keep the electronics, how much do I have to keep? (i know that I have to swap the oil pan, among other things)
ECM, yes for sure, but what about the igntition? Anything else? If I want to use the 722.6, I'll need the TCM, and then what else?
Thanks guys

Swap the engine, keep your rodbender pump. direct fit
Get an controller from ole jefer on this forum for the gearbox.
And off you go in a hurry
The best solution is to swap the manual pump like the others said. If you want to keep original electrics it would be a mess. In common you should take out everything electric from the w210 and put it in the rodbender. It is with plastic key which would not work without the other part that locks the steering column. ABS,ESP control module and the whole system need to be put in the car because if they aren't there the computer can shut down the power or stop the engine completely. Also automatic gearbox would not work without ECM . There are plenty of thing to do and if haven't worked with automotive diagnostic and electrics also chiptuning and etc it is almost impossible to do it yourself. The easiest way is to keep the old pump and get a gearbox controller from ole jefer in the forum
Hi I put 2 om606 in my boat and kept the electronics took some time but managed to reprogram the ecu so the engines are stand alone.
But you would need a manual box as I did not need a gearbox on my boat.
I can do the ecu and wiring for you for £300.00 plus P&P and then its just 4 wires to connect the whole thing up.

thanks for the input, all. I'm sure i'll be posting additional questions in the futre. Picking up the rust bucket later today - will be pulling the engine/trans in the next few weeks.
