Taking the little 617 turbo to the max...maybe
I'm asking for input from you turbo genius guys. I have a Dieselmeken 6mm pump on my 617.
I have the stock garret modified for 60 trim. I need to upgrade as I have nowhere near the air I need.
Talked to the same shop known for doing the 60 trim mod, and we are considering taking same turbo further. Throw a different compressor housing on it and doing a super 70 compressor wheel. Says boost could likely be safe at 30psi. I will admit I am not to well versed in these things.
Hot side would be the same so spool would be good I think. I'll have to check measurements to make sure housing will still clear intake manifold.
What do you think?

(02-06-2014, 03:04 PM)Duncansport Leaving the hot side would cause issues with back pressure at higher RPMs. I would recommend the HY35 route.

Hmmm... Don't want floating valves right. What if I said I never attempt to turn 5k rpms?
Also I've read hx30 is good? No hx35 though.

There are lots of Chx30's out there. Chinese hx30 clones that are very cheap.

Are they worthy though? How well do they hold up?
larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

I been looking for an hx30 just haven't found one yet. Haven't looked really hard though.
I was looking at that same one this morning :-). The only thing I worry about and maybe wrongly so is how they rebuilt it. Maybe they didn't put a 360 degree thrust bearing in it? Maybe that is an easy swap? Would there be a need to rebalance if I swap that? Is a 360 bearing even necessary?
Borg Warner charger would be sweet. One in between a hx30 and hx35 would make for decent spool and power. Or maybe the "super" hx30?
I'd look for a charger with about a 50mm inducer. Any bigger it will be pretty laggy, in my opinion. Borg Warner has the best flowing compressor wheel, because they have the extended top technology

I'd go hy35

I read hx30 spools faster?
I like the forward facing compressor outlet on the Hy35 but how do you clock the housing when the wastegate actuator fitting (whatever its called, where the actuator mounts) is cast into the compressor housing?

HY35s are a dime a dozen. I have about 300 HP with the Quadzilla on 7 with my 2001 Dodge Cummins. 239,000 miles on he origional turbo & still sings away. Same rebuild kit as the HX35. Most Dodge guys will probably give it to you, because it has no real performance value in our world.
