nv 4500 5spd into 126
nv 4500 5spd into 126
has anyone ever attempted this ? i blew the trans on my 126 this past week . i was never a fan of autos , this one was healthy , but was unfortunately "over topped off " before i hit the road . In epic fashion dotty made it to her destination in NC . but now she awaits a trans .
so far im looking at 1500 for rebuilt warrantied replacements .
but i was looking into swaps and theres a comp that makes an adapter plate for GM manuals . NV4500 5spd eazy peazy ,and there cheap .shouldnt be to hard to rig up a sring loaded clutch cable/pedal . from another benz.
has any one ever adapted a manual to 126 , or know of any for that matter around the forums ?
thanks all
so , as far as i can find . the closest , gears would be a wide ratio, muncie out of an older muscle car. or a gentleman mentioned a borg wagner t10 , but said it doesn't like the revs . so far all in i think it will cost a little bit less to do the manual swap , even including some extra budget for the clutch pedal assembly , in any event this will take some time .
As for a 4 speed just go with the 240d om616 manual. They are cheap and a direct bolt on to the om617 including clutch and flywheel the hard part is a clutch pedal and drive shaft
thanks guys, i will be looking into the merc 4spds out there , im curious as to the long term durability as i start to build up the 617 .thats why i was thinking the muncie would be cool , they can be built HD and it seems for short money . ill need to get ahold of a parts cars for the pedals ,so if i get a runner for the right money this could all work out for less than a thousand . as far as drive shaft length , i was kinda expecting a custom one . i saw a thread on here about one piece with cv's and a spicer yoke etc. ........ this sucks with the car being a thousand miles away .

I have an extra w126 manual transmission pedal set but it cost me big money to get it shipped over here from Germany. I also found one locally they are very rare and only offered in the 280se hotel cars not originally sold in the U.S.
I am swapping a 6 SPD in to my 1987 300SDL here in Colorado
Thanks guy , i looked at the thread , ill be reading every page . wbh4u , i saw a 280se ,on cl , not too long ago !
you said you had a pedal set up ? still waiting to find out this minor mod to make mine fit . dod you still have that pedal set ? . wnats gonna make this whacky is the car i got this from was a conversion car .
im going to have to do everything i can here , and then get down to nc and get the swap done in a week . im giving my self time to clean the engine lol
soi read the intire thread , and it seems to pucker out and drift .... ill seek more info but for now its gonna be figure it out . although i did locate a source for the "soft parts" of the trans rebuild , gaskets bearings syncros and bushings
i hope none of the teeth are sheered or funky i cant feel any draging or clunks rotating the shafts in any direction in all gears so......
whilei was taking off the pump today and soaking everything with wd i noticed there is some thing juft loose all the way iun side the clutch jingling around in the cavity of the crank . as well as inside the pressure plate around the input. so that explains the little pieces of metal i have found in the bell housing and prob why the car got parked . the sprangs blew up !Q so ill try to source an urgrade , they are out there so.
this thing has snow balled , and i could have easily grabbed a used auto and driven down to nc and back up for around 1000$? but at this point im still only 600 deep , so at the end of all this im hoping to be under 1800 hard parts and fab/machining .
also cant put a value on all the ifo located through this and other forums , so thanks .
here is a pic of a factory w123 pedal set LH vs an original w126 RH
or check out this thread he made his own out of the original at setup

thanks for the pics Wbh4u , you selling that setup ? if not do you think you could make a stencil/overlay of both and post the pics ? mesurements ? it looks like the pedals are longer . that brace bar is interesting , from your experience . i havent yet pulled my old pedals i just have the 123 set up i pulled . il go take another look .
iDruk , i did grab the booster and master from the swap car . would this booster/master be enough for the 126s brakes? from what ive seen the calipers between models look the same .
so would it be eisier to modify my firewall or the pedal assy?
I've got 2 w126 manual pedal sets I would sell one for the right offer but I have around $300 invested in them each.
check with 5spd617 he made one out of his original w126 auto set mixed with parts from a w123 set check out his thread hear. If I knew it was as easy as what he did I would have saved some money and built my own!

i have the resi from the manual as well so i could just put that on my Bmaster and rock out the modified pedals . although i will eventually NEED the 126 genuin manual set gotta replenish my parts cash . just did some trading .
