W123/126 Engine+Transmission Differences
W123/126 Engine+Transmission Differences
I'm in the process of swapping an engine and transmission from a W123 300D into a W126 300SD. What are all the parts that will need to be swapped over? So far I've found:
Engine mount arms
Transmission tailshaft
Manifolds and turbo (new engine is cali)
Oil filter housing (do I need to swap the whole thing, or just the back plate?)
Both are out of the car right now. What am I missing? I'd like to get this thing running again by monday. The transmission main pump died on me...
Turns out my spare trans is a 722.4... Never really looked at it since it came with an engine I bought and I never thought I'd need it. Just going to drop everything in and deal with the electrical problems later. I know its a weaker trans, but I'm sure it'll last for a little while at least. Don't have time to source another transmission and I need my car.
does the 126 have SLS rear suspension, if it does the cylinder head will need to be swapped over for the suspension hydraulic pump.
The back plate of the oil filter housing is different, so I'm gonna have to swap the whole thing... Anyone know where I can get a gasket ASAP? Autozone and Advance Auto don't have it.
Turbo drain looks fine, the new engine is missing the oil separator drain, but I had a draft tube anyways...
I'm going to end up doing this again in a couple months, since I'm sticking a 722.4 in there now, anyone have a spare 722.3 for sale? Or maybe this is the perfect excuse to finally do the 722.6 swap I've been wanting to...
Tail housings wont swap anyway.... I tried it
Got it in... I just don't have a speedometer, but I have GPS on my phone.
