Cleaning intake manifold
Cleaning intake manifold
Hi everyone,
I have blocked the EGR valve and cleaned the screw that links the intake manifold to the IP ite was almost blocked, i have more power at high rpm.
Anyone knows a easy way to clean the manifold with out removing it?
My car is a G-wagon after the swap to 617a the car is much better but how can i have better performance at low rpm?
Turbo can be adjusted to work earlier?
Best Regards,
Carlos
Easiest way to clean it is to pull it and let it soak in a solvent tank. It's a PITA, but MUCH easier than trying to clean it through the EGR port!
To remove soot, take the intake off, . Get some good cleaning agent, engine wash, degreaser etc. and let the intake soak for a few hours in hot cleaner.. Preferably use a pressure washer for the cleaning afterwards. You'll get it clean faster and easier. I had my intake off and used some special industrial soap intended for floors to do it. Believe it was partly baking soda afaik. You could use lye . Use thick nitrile gloves, eyewear and plenty of caution when handling that. GL
I always think that oven cleaner does a good job of cleaning really grimy stuff, it uses lye and you can get it at the dollar store. Or, water injection will that clean it?
The wastegate adjustment?

the alda is protected by some flimsy metal. On the top of it you will have to open it like a tin can and then you can make the adjustments. While I was messing with mine I broke the adjusting screw and eventually I managed to just remove that sucker all together.
There is a hard to remove piece of metal that is called a tang. It goes in the gap that is the circumference of that cap.
If you get inside you can adjust where the max boost ends and excess boost starts spilling into the exhaust.

here is an alda
2
here is one that has the tamper resistant stuff torn away
3
here is an alda removed
4
here are the guts of one
anything that pushes down on that lever/button in picture 3 will limit the fuel. The alda is pressurized to limit fuel until the boost overcomes that pressure.
People also shim under the alda to raise it away from the lever/button that limits fuel. Like spin the whole assembly upwards and stick a coin between it and the ip so it will not limit fuel so much.
Thanks larsan.
About the wastegate, and my question if the chamber is hermetic.
I was trying to remove the cap and break it. So i made one in aluminium until i find a new one.
What i need to be sure is if the wastegate chamber is hermetic.
I´ve tried to pull al the wastegate valve and no success it is connected to te turbo by a tread correct?
Best Regards
I am having trouble understanding your english. Is your wastegate now broken? It is a hard thing to open and close. Maybe you should look into attaching a new wastegate or a manual boost controller. Is that the same function? I am not sure if is exactly the same.

I am at the end of my knowledge. If you broke the wastegate housing then you are in for more work,
I broke the wastegate cap. So i made one, the first attempt was a failure but the second one is ok. Problem solved for now.
About the wastegate in the market anyone knows one that fits the Garret stock turbo?
The adjust was made and i feel a little nore power only at high rpm.
For now i am going to leave the engine rest because in the last days everything i touch i break...
Yesterday changed the diesel filter but the engine wont start, manual pump must be with out pressure. Is a repair kit available?
Best Regards
How in the world did you break the cap? Like I said yesterday, low end power is the ALDA. Turn it out a turn or so.
No repair kit the manual pump costs a whopping $20 US. Either way it should self prime, crack the hard lines at the injectors and turn it over till you have fuel on all 5 injectors, tighten them up and you are good to go.
Actually, there is a repair kit, it's more than the pump last I checked. :p
