ACC is strange
ACC is strange
It's a 1980 300SD. Runs good, shifts good, the steering is pretty loose but I've driven worse. 220,000 on the clock.
The ACC junction box (Or whatever it's called. WTF do you call it in German...) is leaking. I'm not delusional enough to think I can actually get it functioning properly but I would like to bypass it for now. Apart from finding a manual control setup, what are my options?
I'm about to dig into it.
Thanks in advance for any help. I'm really starting to bond with this car. Fascinating old thing!
Are you talking about the EVIL SERVO UNIT? You have several options, $700 for an electric metal one or just put in a petcock valve.
I have seen used metal ones for $300-$400 on eBay
Yep, the unit with all the vacuum lines. I was thinking about putting a vacuum valve like older US cars from the 70's had and using one of the controls to actuate it.
I've done AC retrofits on old cars and all you need is to turn the water to the heater core off/on, turn the compressor off/on, control the blower speed and actuate some flappers for the defrost/heat. I'm not interested in even attempting to get the ACC functioning but I would like to explore assigning different functions to the ACC controls for basic heat/air while maintaining the look.
I was thinking about tearing into the dash and seeing what can be done.
Any input on this?
Use the AC on/off for the compressor
Use the temp wheel for blower speed
Use a button to switch the water off/on, another for the defrost flapper, etc.
