Well here is a wierd one. My wife parked her 82 300SD and went shopping. She came out, started the car, tried to shift it only to find that the trans did nothing. No forward, no reverse, no noise, no leaks, lots of clean fluid on the stick. I came to investigate suspecting a linkage problem, but no, linkage is fine. There were absolutely no issues with the trans up to this point. I suspect the oils pump has failed or something else causing no oil pressure. I didn't want to waste any time when we got it home so I just swapped trannies and the car is fine now, but what do you guys think could be the issue? I consulted my 722.3 service manual and this symptom isn't even covered in the troubleshooting guide.

You stated linkages are OK, then most likely the front pump if no forward or reverse.

Might be moot since you changed out the trans, but an easy test for the pump is to unhook one of the trans lines to the radiator and see if fluid shoots out when running.

Gota love Mercedes Diesels!

Thats OK, me no read english sometimes too. I figured it was the front pump too. Weird circumstances though. I will tear into it at some point to check things out, freshen things up and put it on the shelf for when the unexpected happens again.

That is what my CD does but I finally collected all the parts for my spare 722.3 and dropped it of to the trans guy, I am putting new frictions, steels and bands in so maybe it will need a new pump to.

My trans was being put together today and it sure is basic, maybe that is why they last so long. I need to get my shit together and order my converter, it seems like this project is picking up pace.
