I'm back!
No longer a machinist, new job, house, and car.
My '85 is at the end of its life, my hack bodywork is coming apart and it looks awful. Engine is still great but the tranny is shot. Not worth fixing.
Anyway, I still love these cars, been looking for a good one and found one down in Columbus rust free and already converted to a 4-speed. Went and bought it, then drove it home. What a white knuckle ride it ended up being. Fuel issue somewhere, it wouldn't idle. Alternator died on me halfway through, I made the last 50 miles of the trip in the dark with no headlights, taillights, ect. Miracle that I didn't get pulled over.
Couple of dents to work out, a few very tiny rust bubbles. Floors are completely solid, no rust on the underside at all. Plans are to get it running properly, get it looking good, then to make it go fast. I'm going to swap most of the interior from the '85, and my rims + shocks.
First things first, there is a lot of neglected maintenance to get caught up on. Parts ordered already and on their way. The PO ran his own biodiesel, and the very rough/won't idle leads me to believe that the fuel system is probably dirty.
On the positive side, the car is fun to drive with the manual trans, more peppy and responsive.
More to come!
