OM 606 head porting - zeeman - 01-13-2019

Has anyone done any head porting on the OM 606 engine? Is there any benefits of doing any porting work?

Yes. Exhaust side is a very small restriction. Intake is almost perfect. I also fitted bigger valves and machined the seats to fit the bigger valves. Torue ove the whole rpm-band increased signifincantly.

Did you go with bigger valves on the exhaust as well as the intake? What did you use for valves, seats and guides?

Went both sides with CDI valves. I Used the 7mm cdi valve guides. Seats in the head were cut bigger and seats on the valves were regrinded. The valves are 1,5mm shorter if i remeber it right... Uses Lashcaps to compensate that.

So you used the original seats and cut them bigger? And used the inline 6 cylinder CDI valves? Were did you get the lash caps from?

exactly... Used 1mm schrick lash caps. 6mm in diameter.

Did you need to fly-cut pistons for valve clearance? Or is the bottom end standard om606?

I see were F-tune also makes different thickness lifter shims also.

Thanks for all the info.    Zeeman

Yes, had to mill the gaps in the pistons. But not that much. Only like 0.5-1mm. I did that free hand with a real mans dremel. You have to work very carefully. But it would be better to get the pistons out the engine and do the job on a mill.

How thin do the seats get? It looks like the intake seat is already thin, the exhaust not so much.

What RPM do you feel the torque improved the most? Just wondering if a offroad vehicle would benefit that much vs a street machine.

I don't have a dyno graph before/after. You have to try this by your own.
