Upgrade driveshafts with diff? - madmog - 09-08-2018

On a W114/5 when changing a rear diff for more power, Ie lowering the ratio, are the original W114 driveshafts up to the job (300-350bhp) or should others be used? If so, from the various diffs that are compatible (W116, W123, early W126) do any of the driveshaft lengths match? Or do they have to be made?

Thanks

It's moreso the flex discs that are the weak link. V8 driveline would be the way to go (110mm discs vs 90mm?)
I'm just going to go the full way and get a one piece driveshaft built for my ~200hp build

I should have said I'll increase the flex disc diameter, possibly get whole prop of something like a 560SEC and shorten/lengthen to suit. I just wondered whether the driveshafts were weak. I presume they would be narrower on a W114/5

Oops sorry. Didn't realise you meant the half-shafts....that I cannot help with and might learn something myself

.065 tube ish or the metric equivalent.  they actual shaft is probably good for 4-500ftlbs tho the slip spline is pretty small. the flex disks are the rowdy part tho.  then getting everything to align once you go soild vs rubber>

benz force sells pucks that can take a u joint flange. i i were to do it all over again i would just throw away the mercedes stuff buy those have tom woods make a shaft and run u joints.
