OM642LS Tuning - Devilsfuel - 06-26-2018

Hi Guys,

I have been browsing the forums in the hope i can get some information to help with my project.  Information is limited on the OM642LS engine and in particular trying to get it to 400bhp.

My car (UK C350 CDI 265bhp) currently has a custom front mount intercooler and remap on it, it was dynod at 310bhp and 540lb-ft

I have been speaking to a turbo supplier and have two options for the standard GTB2260VKLR turbo, i can go with just a cold side upgrade to GTB2265VKLR or pay more with custom turbine and get GTB2565VKLR.

My question is how good is the fuel system on this engine to push 400Bbhp? is the turbo is flowing enough air?  I believe it has 1800bar fuel pressue capability but not sure the limitation on the HP pump itself.

If the fueling cant support anymore than 350bhp then i would go with the lower spec hybrid but if there is room for 380bhp-400bhp then the bigger hotside would be better.

DPF downpipe would also be fitted at the time of the turbo swap.

Thanks!!

The fuel system will happily provide more fuel, but the engine may not be too happy with that.

The specific OM642 from the pictures ran "only" on ~300HP, but in a direct injected engine things are a little different compared to a IDI.

The engine died at ~160.000km which was approximately 20.000km after leaving stock power level at 140.000km.

On the first picture you can see there is a nice 8 sheet flower corona on the piston, every sheet  like the other one. So the nozzle was not broken, only the engine could not handle the increased stress.

Thanks for the info.  Thats too bad about your pistons!  Was this on an earlier model of OM642 or on the 'LS' model?

Not sure if you have seen the technical release for the OM642 but i have attached the PDF.  It mentions having new pistons with extra cooling capacity so hopefully that would help with any piston issues but suppose there is only one way to find out  Smile

Don´t worry, those are not my pistons, but I get this kind of info every now and then.
They came from a non LS version of the OM642.
