603T vacuum pump used for? - abosely - 05-30-2018

On the 603T, what does the vacuum operate other than the brake booster? I'm using hydro brakes, so don't need vacuum for operating the brakes.

I would like to delete the vacuum pump, if vacuum isn't required to operate something on the engine. If vacuum isn't needed, no need to run the pump.

Cheers, Allen

Door locks, egr, shutoff valve to stop engine. Also the climate control vent flaps.

Thanks, I’m going to be rebuilding it to new specs and putting it in the 100” 69’ Series IIA Land Rover I’m building.
Will want to engine shutoff function though. Someo said the 605 & 606 vac pumps are better than the 603 ones, so will get one of them for it.

I have a FB page on the build:

You cant use 606 pump on 603 because 606 pump has pressure lubrication and different sprocket.

Ok thanks, good to know that before I chased a 605/606 pump down and then found that out. :-)

If you want vacuum for shutoff only, you'd be better off reliability wise with an electric vacuum pump

That's a good idea. I would rather have an electric vac pump instead of running the mechanical pump all the time just to shut off the engine. Does it need to have vacuum when running or is the vacuum used only when shutting down engine?
I'll have a manual fuel shutoff valve in case of malfunction.
