why wont my camshaft fit? - BoostedW124 - 04-21-2017
I am in the process of putting my om606 head back on. I just dropped the hydraulic lifters in Next the camshaft doesnt pop in as a couple lobes are Hung up. Like my lifters are too high not sitting in deep enough. What am doing wrong guys?

A couple of valves are always open in an assembled engine. This means, if you disattach the upper camshaft bearing caps, the "open" valves will push the camshaft up and close.
Like mr. Hooblah says, sounds normal... but a picture says more than 1 x 10^3 words

No sorry i can't get pics to upload through the website right now. I was thinking to put all the clamps that hold the cams and carefully clamp them down but wanted to hear someone else's input. Last tying i need is to snap a cam...

You need to make sure that the valves that will be pushed down have someplace to go. Is the cam vs. crank timing nearly correct?

Thanks you answered some of my questions. Ok AlanMcR i think i see what you mean. My pistons are at TDC so if i was to place the cams with the timing marks lining up so the "cam vs crank timing" will be correct then carefully tighten down would be the way to do it because the cylinder wont interfere with valves because that cylinder in question will be down therefore the valves im pushing down by tightening will have "someplace to go". I will await your response before "jumping the gun" ?

Yes you align the crank to TDC (OT on the damper), the align #1 to inlet stroke where both cam lobes are up (more like in & ex lobes are up at about 2-3 o'clock), the gently wind down the bolts in sequence, 180 degrees at a time or whatever it is.
Been reading up on this because I have to pull the lifters and clean them out because it's clackity clack clack at idle..
