Om617 timing. - Cstolaircraft - 04-18-2017

Just needing to do a double check... I have a ip lock tool currently it's locking at 18 atdc... for performance I know time to 26-7 btdc... with it locking at 18 atdc my timing is currently 20 degrees btdc?

617 pumps are not installed that way...
Engine is set at 24° btdc and pump gear is aligned with the mark. The pump gear only slides in the grooves in one sense.
After that advance is done by rotating the pump against the block.

Slighty off topic here.

What is the reason to install superpumps lets say 19-22° btdc instead of 24° that the standard 5.5mm pump uses?

Yes a bit of topic...
Instalation method got to do with getting the engine running rather than tune the timming for best perfoance.
22° start of injection is suposed to be advaced.
But how do u know wich is the best time set to your engine?
By listening and watch the behaviour, or using a timming device. But even with a timming device it may need small adjustment.
Either advance or retard....
