FEELER: '99 E300/606 SWAP INTO 210 WAGON - Austincarnut - 02-11-2017

I bought a super clean '99 210 the other day that was hit hard and isn't quite what I need to dick with.  I have been seeing clean 210 wagons for fairly cheap and would like to transplant my low mileage parts into the wagon to make a vehicle MB never intended to make.  I was wondering if anyone out there has already attempted this or had any info on the unseen differences between the two.  The closest thing was the E270 estate that we missed out on in the US...  I feel the wagon is a more useful vehicle and will serve my purposes more than a boring sedan.

You mean putting om606 3.0td from sedan to wagon? They maybe never made them to US but here in Europe almost half of these are wagon. Parts are all bolt on, wheelbase is the same, trickiest would be wiring depending on what engine wagon car has.

exactly right.  I was wondering if anyone in the US has done this... The only things I see so far without digging in the EPC are the fuel return line, rear portion of the exhaust, wiring and getting local govt to convert vehicle over to a diesel.  Does anyone have a euro VIN / FIN #??

RE: FEELER: '99 E300/606 SWAP INTO 210 WAGON - CRD4x4 - 02-13-2017

There's a subset of car people who prefer a wagon over anything else. I belong in that subset but idk how many more wagon enthusiasts there are out there.
I've dreamt of opening a shop just for diesel conversions but I worry the customer base is just too small to make it worthwhile.
In the Mid-Atlantic I mostly find 4matic w210 wagons for sale and that'd complicate the swap.
If you're feeling the forum out for a 1x car build then I bet you can find someone to build it for but don't expect to make huge profits unless you're getting the car for free.
We (collectively) tend to be tight with our cash.

I'm looking for someone who can answer the questions I have raised.  Naturally, I wouldn't count on anyone building me what I can make myself.

Ok... MB attempted to make W210 wagon with OM606.962, and, suprisingly enough, they managed to pull it off. They're around, with chassis number beginning with WDB210.225...

So, how can we help you to make a 210.225 MB never intended to make?

First, I need a FIN#.... I also would like to speak to someone that has done this stateside to discuss the possible legal issues involved with rebodying a 210 as it hasn't made it to the magic 25 year of obsolescence.

In California, the swap would be legal if you maintain the emissions devices, so I would imagine Texas being much more lax. Check your DMV website for engine swap guidelines.

RE: FEELER: '99 E300/606 SWAP INTO 210 WAGON - nord - 02-16-2017

Why rebody it? Start with any W210 diesel wagon you can find, if Texas requires it to be diesel in the first place, get a 606 turbo donor and go to town with a tool set.

As it was never imported in the states as 300D turbo wagon, there won't be a federal VIN, in WDBJHB...blah blah, but Euro VIN which starts with WDB210.225.1A...that car's serial number.

Do I need to get you a full VIN from an euro W210 wagon with OM606 turbo, or this is enough?

I repeat, WDB210225 is first 9 digits of VIN# of every W210 wagon fitted with OM606 turbo from factory, the rest is factory code and serial nubmer specific to every car...

There are zero diesel 210 wagons to be had here in the US.  I do understand the differences between a US VIN and a euro FIN as I have worked for MB for a very long time.  I would like to get an entire FIN as EPC makes it easier than comparing with a vague chassis number.

So.....Do you or anyone happen to have an entire FIN from a 210 wagon, OM606 car?

Isnt it easier to import to US a 1000-1500usd car from france or germany? Tranport would costyou less than rebuild.
Hell i can sell you w210 wagon for 5000usd with hx35w and 7.5mm ip om606 with no rust. Thats uncommon in PL a car with no rust.

. But it does not come as cheap as stock one.

I love it in NZ and considering ever going back to my car in europe.will take family to Whangarei
Crazy plan

In the states imported cars have to be 25 years old due to grey market rules.
