Om606 Injectors leaking - hummermaniac88 - 01-07-2017

Hi there,

I realized I have a pools of diesel in the injector wells. I read a few threads regarding stock OM606 and was wondering if it would apply to my modified Mpump.

My setup is:

- OM603 pump with 220CC 8MM element
- Stock OM606 Injectors
- HX40W turbo (Not sure if relevant)

The return lines are brand new on the injectors.
The injectors and fuel lines have been torqued down to spec during rebuild of engine.
The injectors are 300XXXkms old, not serviced.

What could be the cause of the fuel leak?

- Injectors too small for 220cc?
- Any seals that can be old in the injectors?

What have you guys done with super turbo builds?

Thanks for the help!

I once had the return line of number one injector pop off after i refit the rocker cover. and it filled up the well with diesel and then filled every injector well as the diesel flowed backwards.
I would double check your return lines.

The injector itself can definitely handle 220cc, but if the well is filling up its a return line issue, or one injector body is leaking from the body.
I filled my injector wells with water while the car was running to remove all the diesel then used pressurized air to remove the water and the heat of the engine evaporated the water also.
I would suggest cleaning the wells thoroughly and check your injector lines from the pump, im presuming the car runs and idles fine. Otherwise a leaking injector line would give a miss on one injector.

This might give you a better idea of what injector is at fault.

Thanks for the reply, does anyone have a picture of what return line on cylinder 6 (Closest to the cabin) should connected to? Mine is a little piece of return line that isn't connected anything.

I'll check the body and the injectors itself. The idle is rough on cold mornings (-15 to -25 c) once I rev it a little it runs fine but feels under powered at times.

They all daisy chain into each other from 6 upto 1 then it returns towards the pump.
Number 6 has a blanking plug on one side then the daisy chain starts towards injector 5

Ok I'm missing the blank plug on cylinder 6 closest to the cabin.

If an injector is blocked would it cause more fuel and pressure to flow down the return line and cause them to leak that way??

RE: Om606 Injectors leaking - seanyt - 01-08-2017

The return line always has excess fuel flowing through it from all the injectors
But if an injector is blocked it wouldn't leak it would just flow the fuel through the return line.

It would leak if it was getting through the injector body somehow or from a cracked injector line or missing or cracked rubber return line.

The injector only builds pressure due to the size of the pintle, it would not release this same pressure through a return line, just the flowed cc on its injection event.

You have just answered your own question. You have left the leak off line open on  umber 6 injector...

The plug is a little barb of metal. Quite small and easy to throw out with the old lines.

My engine has a nail shoved in the end hose.
