OM606 Daimler slow project - Fishman - 10-12-2016
This week i bought 2 cars, a E300TD and a Daimler Sovereign (Jag XJ6)

The Daimler is 99.9% rust free, but the engine runs bad.(most likely rotor or dirty carbs).
The plan is to drive te MB for the winter and than pull the engine out en put it in te Damler.
I want to use an auto gearbox with Ole controller.
For the engine i'm looking for about 400 hp. It's gonna be a daily driver.
I'm thinking of a Holset HX40 and a Eaton M90/112 supercharger.
This thread is so i can ask some questions abou the build. Here the first ones:
I need an OM648 sump and pump. Can i use the OM606 Dipstick?
Same question for the gearbox: can i use the w5a330 dipstick, gearselector en oilcooler on a w5a580/900/1000?

In England they restarted the tax free after 25 years thing, so it was pre1972 was tax free, but now it's whenever a vehicle becomes 25 years old, so now its 1974 year manufacture or something.
The 202 has only got 25 years to wait..

Overhere it was 25 yrs also. They have changed it to 40 yrs. I had a tax free Audi 100 diesel from 1986. Had to put in a gas engine to avoid diesel tax wich would be 140 eurp/month. So fitted a 290 hp S6 engine. But diesel is more my cop of tea.

No, just high taxes over Diesels in general... For my Scirocco, I pay 77 Euro a month, because it is 980 kg. In the Netherlands, Taxes are based on weight and fuel type.
After 40 years old, the car becomes tax free...

I love the project! That Jag has the sexiest body lines & I've looked for years for one without rust to put a 606 into, without success. Is that a '72? Did they ever come with a manual trans?

I was judging the year by the bumper design which was my mistake. By '76 your car would've had ugly big "federal" bumpers in the USA.

It's missing the feedpump. Will the feedpump from the EDC pump fit?

Yes it will. Or maybe use the stock electric fuel feed system? Maybe with a newer pump though

Been driving my donor 300TD for a week now. Thought she was a little slow. Found a leaking vacuum valve. Now she pulls like a fright train. I now realy like the OM606.....

Yesterday i bought a 722.634 gearbox from a 270 CDI with only 100.000 km's. Also sent a 603 pump to Dieselmeken.

Just did the 3/4 flare mod on the transmission. Wasn't that hard of a job. I got a little scared when i found a couple of check balls and a tiny filter screen on the workbench

Drilled this hole to 4mm.
More good news, yesterday i bought a power lock diff from a 1987 Jaguar XJR V12. It als has a better gearratio than the original (closer to the w210).

Awesome, it's either modified by some one or it's USA spec because it never came stock here with a snout that short.
Looking at it, looks like the snout has been machined down, we had to do the same to ours because the normal snout is about 10" long!
You will install turbo blowing though it full compound or with a bypass?
Looking forward to more progress!

It's from a kit made for a Nissan 350z. Yess turbo blowing into supercharger with bypass. Git any ideas on a bypass valve?

Yes and no. Only the gearboxflange on the sump is different, so the bolts don't fit. I think it can do without these bolts. I had to weld a little bracket to mount the dipsticktube to the sump.

I am also very curious to see how you will manage it at RDW. Because it is an old car, it probably will be effortless
