new sdl 603.961 owner/new member, looking for advice/info and intro. - fückndübbn - 10-01-2009

hello all, my name is drew. i'm an a&p mechanic from maryland, 20 years of age. i just picked up a '97 300sdl with the mighty 603 i6. i'm not new to diesel mercs. i've owned a '85 300d, 85' 300sd and a '85 190d. i also had, well still have, a '89 300 gasser. i'm also into audis and vws, owning a '83 original ur quattro, and a equally rare 95.5 s6 quattro.

i've browsed this site and think its and absolute gold mine! its great to see modified 617s and others who share a passion for these mechanical works of art.

what i'm looking for inparticular is some in depth info on the 603 series engine, as its brand new to me. i've read else where that if i was to tinker with the fuel stop i can coax some more power out of her fairly easy, could someone confirm/steer me in the correct direction? the car has about 250,000. bought her for $1,200 needing only a small fuel line patch and a new rear brake line. orignal owner i may add. minor rust with an average respray. the blue leather is sun dried and fading quite a lot.

p.s. for your viewing pleasure a few of my older mercs, and yes i did lower them via chopping springs, and no, i won't be hasty with the torches on the sdl. on my behalf i did keep the cars VERY clean got many nods even from the most discriminative mercedes owners. also, pardon my picture whoring, i never get a chance to show these off.

Oh my! Dark anthracite! Is that original paint? Can't wait for mine to look like that.
Love the quattro, have you seen the show Ashes to Ashes? They have one in like every episode. So fun to watch cuz they rag it out.

the front clip had been painted, the rest of the car was original. i sold it to a older lady in philly. the jack points and rear dog leg started to rust, so i figured it was time to flip it.

i love ashes to ashes for the sole fact that it boosted the value of my rare car even more. one of 242 for 1983 (hand built in 1982) in america.
