Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - Evenglass - 07-17-2016

Looking for good injectors for om617. I've read countless posts regarding Monarch vs. Bosch vs. Bosio with no definitive answer. I don't want to balance them myself but am willing to pay for the service. I've heard of companies balancing and micro polishing injectors but not for the 617. Are they really worth it in the end? My factofactory injectors don't seem to have issues but I'd like to upgrade while I have the engine out.

IDI engines wont benefit from X or Y injector as a DI would.
If u already have a 312, 315, 316 nozzle is same as in the 60X injectors, no need to change, although increasing the pop pressure to 150bar seems to make difference at least at noise level.
Beware that most people here have high output pumps and precups modded , and they still keep the same injector nozzle as it is my case.
u can sure try and report back any differences
regards

Always a wealth of knowledge barrote. So you are saying there is no real difference between my factory 1984 Bosch nozzle and new Monarchs? If nothing is wrong just leave it be, even with 200,000 miles? I am running a dieselmeken M-pump Hx30 turbo. I just want to do any (worthwhile) nenecessary upgrades while the engine in out.

As I've said before, comparing nozzle brands is like comparing apples to oranges, you need to know the code like DN0SD240, 265, etc

I'd definitely recommend testing them at least with that amount of use on them. I've put a fresh set of 315s (thanks to Greazzer) in mine as a bit of an experiment.

IDI engine!!!  as long as the spray patern is good and consistent, the injection will behave as predicted.
I can see no reason for a 2016 build nozzle with the same specs as a 1980 nozzle , behave better....

As i said, try and report back... i´ll be very glad to hear that u increased your HP by 5 in each cylinder just with a new injector tip.
Regards.

Pintle nozzles build carbon deposits at nozzle and nozzle seat which decrease fuel output by restricing orifice and ultimately altering spray pattern. If you ask about 1980s never used well stored BOSCH nozzles and present production for sure go with old stuff. However if you ask about 30 years nozzle in your engine is good, I highly doubt it. Ive done plenty of them, most dont spray good anymore and ALL of this age have decresead opening pressure by random amount around 10-15Bar.

Great replies on here. So what is it with these injector numbers? 315's and so on. I just assumed I'd order some Monarchs for the Om617, I didn't realize there where other options. What nozzles would be best for my setup with modified M pump?

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - barrote - 07-18-2016

have them rebuilt with dns 315, or those found in the 606 stock injector. repop them at 150bar, open the pre cup holes 25% max.
and try , report back. hehehe

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - Evenglass - 07-23-2016

Ok so where can I find some Monark #315's? Do you think these are good for my setup?

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - Evenglass - 07-23-2016

What Monark's will replace my factory Bosch without increasing or decreasing flow. Basically just a replacement for the the 30 year old one's.

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - barrote - 07-23-2016

I dont know how u do it in the states but in my planet u ask from bosch dealer, injector tips for OM606 injector , he should have a cathalog where the number DNS 315 will come.
them u need a diesel shop to overhaul the tip holder , clean the parts inside , repop and thats it.
Wink
if u were closer i would do it for u.

I did. They have Monarch 261 listed for the om617. Does anyone have any info on these?

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - raysorenson - 07-24-2016

DN0SD261 is the stock nozzle.

RE: Best off the shelf om617 injectors ? - MFSuper90 - 07-24-2016

I have 315s in mine, and I couldn't tell a seat of the pants difference or a visual smoke difference between them and the 265s or whatever was stock

Get a hold of Greazzer...he offered rebuild and balance service a while back. Many on here have used him and report great results...likely to be better result when a fellow enthusiast does it and will take the time to balance them properly, not "just" to factory +/- specs...

Greazzer is the man!
