Engine won't stop - CID Vicious - 09-29-2009

I was in the process of checking something out on my 240D and tried to use the under hood stop lever. It seemed to just get to where it'd almost stop the engine, I pushed it a little harder and something gave way. Now the lever is pushed further back, and to top it off now the key doesn't switch the motor off either! Huh

I basically stalled it out but this isn't good. I don't see anything broken but I was working with a 'miner's light' at the time. What do I need to look for?

Linkage on the engine side of the ip.

Nothing popped off or broke as far as I can tell. It'll actually stop with the lever, but it seems as though it's got more resistance than it should. I'm going to get under the dash and make sure the vacuum line isn't disconnected or dry rotted but I think I might need a 'stopper solenoid' or whatever it's called.

I soaked the side of the IP with PB Blaster and eventually this went away and the linkage didn't feel so bound up. Might have been a byproduct of the many degreasings I've done to the car.

Sounds like it. Coat the linkage balls and sockets with bearing grease.

I'm going to pick up another can of cable life and will probably use that. Actually, I might get the kit - best lubricant I've ever used. Dries to a film and lasts a long time - it's great for dusty areas like where I live, liquid lubes attract and trap particulates over time, and besides, my hood cable is feeling a little sticky.
