W123 + CVT - Biocruzer - 03-27-2016

Hi, all.  Happy Resurrection Day!  It may be a dumb question, but I'm wondering if anyone has experimented with mating a OM617 to a Nissan CVT out of a Murano or other model that produces more horsepower and torque?  Seems to me (a tyro) that keeping the OM617 at its best power range with a CVT could be a great way to move along if the auto trans dies.  Anyone with thoughts on the matter?

Though, I've never considered how CVTs are controlled (though I suppose somebody with enough talent and free time will create a CVT controller out of an Arduino at some point), the primary issue with the Murano and many other CVTs are the fact they are used on vehicles with transverse engines.

Perhaps the Audi CVT could be adapted, as it's a longitudinal design?

That would be cool, but I'm sure it would take a lot of knowledge about the system and electronics that run the cvt. We have a Massey Ferguson 8690 with a CVT or dyna-VT in their language

The Audi CVT is front wheel drive. I can't think of any rwd CVT transmission... Except for the old volvo's but their system is more like that from a scooter.

It would be interesting to design a controller for it though.

There you go! I thought it was an AWD system, but you're correct.
