648 oil pan on 606 questions - Grecy - 12-04-2015

Hey everyone,

I've got the rear-sump oil pan from the 648 on my 606, and have two questions.

1. The dipstick tube from the 648 has been installed (near the back of the block, intake side) and I'm wondering if I can leave a dipstick in there while the engine is running, or if I must remove the dipstick when the engine is running? I have a generic dipstick that fits well enough.

2. There is a large opening in the pan at the rear, where the flywheel is visible.
I circled it in red in this image: http://imgur.com/qOtnL75
Is there a cover or rubber plug for that? I really don't want to pickup mud/stones in there.

Thanks,
-Dan

Look the part number for the pan up in the EPC. It will bring up a diagram with the pan, the plug and it's part number.

How do I look something up in the EPC? I don't have any access to anything Mercedes.

Thanks,

Curious about that also. Is it a web site like W124-zone.com? Grecy, did you use the oil pump, pickup tube and special main bearing bolts to secure the pickup tube?
