606 remote oil filer - monstercrawlers - 09-24-2015

Is there anyone using a remote oil filter, I want to make a plate but have read something about a bypass, some saying needed some say don't. Interested to see what people have done and are using. Is there anyone knocking these plates out anywhere

The 606 filter housing has an internal waxstat and diverting channels for the oil. How important they are....who knows?

RE: 606 remote oil filer - barrote - 09-28-2015

not really important, u can make a plate and atach HYD hoses to it.
adding too much hose may lead to failure in lub in the fist seconds , a check valve before and after solve the problema.
there´s a fórum member who sels those thigs , FRAS is the name, and i belive dieselmeken too
regards...

And nicely fitting external filter comes from BMW M60/62 engines. Used for example in E39 540i.

I made a plate for my w123 with om617 from 25mm aluminium plate. I ended up using nylon braided hose as it was much more flexible than the stainless I first tried. Originally I just ran without a thermostatic controller but I did find one on a racing parts site (Summit or Jegs or maybe Speedway) that had the appropriate temperatures and big enough AN fittings. So it will *work* without any immediate problems, but I'd imagine the engine will take a bit longer to warm up if the oil is being cooled right away. (I didn't really notice anything but I generally warm my cars up a bit before driving anyway). Edit: the one I installed is similar to this one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/prm-1075/overview/

If you have the engine out of the vehicle you can likely also tap the block directly for AN (JIC 37 or whatever the standard is called) fittings. On the OM617 there were several holes on the block but only 2 are actually used. Most block off plates only have one inlet and one outlet. It helps to look at the factory drawings of the original oil tower when you make your plate.

2nd Edit: See pics of my old setup in Post #66 here: http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/showthread.php?tid=366&page=2

m103 Smile

RE: 606 remote oil filer - monstercrawlers - 10-06-2015

Does the filter housing from the m103 fit the 606,, screw on filter if I'm correct

RE: 606 remote oil filer - F.R.A.S - 10-07-2015

Yes it's a spin-off filter on the m103 and the housing is bot on to the om60x engines. So a cheap sandwich adapter and so on and you are home free. I use a Volvo turbo sandwich with built in thermostat for my external oilcooler on the om604.

Thanx Fras, you're the man. Took some finding but I have one on way

FRAS MAN what Volvo engine is the sandwich plate with waxstat from? The waxstat bypass cost loads on their own!

740 turbo Smile Not on all models though. Had to drill the center a bit but it's all good. Have had zero problems with the install and are using a 7" spin off filter from some Volvo model.
