OM605 Troubleshooting - Keino - 09-15-2015

Any idea why the engine would run like this? 


After startup and a little idle, then some revving :

Sound like injector noise???

take valve cover off , check cam timing.
check injection pump timing,
my opinion valves coliding with piston or rod bearing due to missed timing.
anyway stop the engine imediatly, find the fault and then go on.

Pump is set to 12c   Isn't that a bit early?
7mm pump made by some guy, private I think, not a firm.
Might be the problem?

It's not my engine fyi.

ok ok ok not your engine ... dadad was trying to help ....
check valve timing, after that check injection timing....
i´m going to write for the 1000th time , RIV method or locking tool is just a IP assembly procedure. to tune the IP MB recoment the stobe light device. why ? cause when a pump is built the injection start is done by the tecnician , and is not so strange to have 2or 3 dregree diff.
the stroboscopic light device read out the real injection happening, the other method is by listening the engine.

Small update

Owner says compression is bad on 1st + 2nd cylinder.  Says idle is good however.

why that usually they die first in the 4th and 5th cyinders.... and when compression is bad they do make that noise , but a cloud of white smoke comes behind , wich leaves few doughts about the noise....
good luck then, opening the bastard...

How bad is the compression? ...numbers

To me it sounds like the pump timing is off more than 10 degrees.

Are the 12degrees you mentioned  refering to RIV method or static overflow timing?

It could also be possible the pump elements are not synchronized anymore.
