Getting a better pump, shipped to America -- How much does it cost? - bitshoptyler - 03-08-2015

I've got a 91 350SDL and it's been retired for a little while while I wait for a turbo rebuild (I actually rebuilt it and messed up the balancing when I put it back.)

I've gotten a bit addicted to the faster car I've been driving in the meanwhile (BMW 740iL), and now I'm thinking instead, I might want to put in an HX35, and get a better pump, maybe even an intercooler. I'm trying to find out how much it will cost to get a new pump from Dieselmeken or a similar shop (not sure there *are* any similar shops.) I want to order a new pump with 7mm elements, rather than ship one from here (and have to pay $500 or so for a pump anyway.) Is there any way to order a completely built pump and have it shipped? How much would it cost for everything, and is there anyone in the US that can do it?

I'd also like to know if I can use the same pump if I decide to switch to a 3.0L engine (I've got a possible spare/parts car with a 603.)

Yes you can use the pump on anything. Dieselmeken is the only one as far as I'm concerned. If you go the route of super pump and dieselmeken you will wonder why you even drive that slow ass 740

Just ask him. He is on Facebook.

PM me if u´re interested in a cheaper solution.
Dieselmeken is the man!!! no so cheap but it well worth the investment.

Haha, I actually like the 740 quite a bit, I looked at a W220 at the same time and decided on that car. I wanted something much faster, decent handling (the SDL has a great suspension for cruising down the highway, not so much cornering, though I can get it through the twisties plenty fast, even if I have to get on the gas at the beginning of a turn to have any power coming out), and able to haul 4-5 people and all their stuff easily (I took it on a ski trip a bit before I wrecked it (hit a curb 10-15 mph), I'm waiting on a lot of rear suspension pieces now, and about ready to come crawling back to the Mercedes after the repair bills on this thing (it still needs timing chain guides done in the next 20-30k miles (which is a year or so of driving for me, if that), I think I might sell it before I have to deal with that, but I'm not sure.)

I'd love to know if anybody knows how to make the W126 handle decently. I love the way it soaks up bumps and everything in the road, but it rolls and wallows too much to be really fast. I found a few 'sport' suspension kits, but all of them say not to use it on a diesel (not sure why, the weight?) I might put on a bigger sway bar at least, but I'm not sure where to go from there.

I'll ask on Facebook about it, and see how much it is, thanks for the responses.

Are you asking about how much the work costs or just the shipping?

Get better dampers in that 126 and it'll handle much better.

And the exchange rate?

RE: Getting a better pump, shipped to America -- How much does it cost? - led-panzer - 03-10-2015

With bank fees and paying the return shipping from Sweden, it's about $1,050 USD

Good exchange rate quotes; will wire funds wherever. Double check that they do SEK.

Led did you 8nclude price of shipping the core over?

RE: Getting a better pump, shipped to America -- How much does it cost? - led-panzer - 03-10-2015

I did not, that cost me $90. And I paid around $125 for the core pump, from a forum member in the US

Pump will fit both the 3 and 3.5L...

But--I wouldnt advise messing with the 3.5L with their reputation of rod-bending....

Is Goran taking MW's yet? Or still just M pumps?

RE: Getting a better pump, shipped to America -- How much does it cost? - atypicalguy - 03-11-2015

You can send the mw.

Fed Ex wants $400 from South Dakota. What company did you use?

Thanks,
Karl

USPS

Anything else is a ridiculous price

Hey led-panzer, did you use a USPS flat-rate box or what? I am in touch with Dieselmeken for him to buy large pumps off me and I want to get the lowest costs for him.

Anyway, Dieselmeken is a stand up guy, very friendly and actually pretty funny too. I advise you to check out his YouTube channel; he recently posted a very informative video about installing and timing the mechanical diesel pumps into the OM606! His English is pretty good! You can talk to him on FB. He also charges the same prices for 6-8mm; I'm not sure about what the "superstroker" that costs more is though.

I dont think flat rate boxes are for international shipping. Could be wrong.
