what eBay (Chinese) spring compressor for w123? - xl.617.lx - 03-08-2015

Whats up everyone!

Ive been trying to figure out which eBay w123 spring compressor is the "best" out of all the different ones.  Most of the information I've found is pretty old and I was wondering which one you guys would recommend?  They all look to be the same exact tool just with different name brand names, cases, and prices.  They range in price from $80-$200.  Which one do you guys like the best out of the cheap ones?

Thanks for the help guys!

Why buy china spring compressor? I got some off ebay a few years ago, changed one set of land rover discovery springs and they are bent as a banana now......

Not much fun watching them bend with a big spring compressed inside it.....

I bought the EWK Tool brand last year for $129.00. I have used this on the front and rear springs on my w123 twice now with no problems (this doesn't include removing springs from donor car).  I did have to file out the holes where the spring compressor fits in the front because it was like a few mm too big in diameter. I've had no problems yet! I love it, but it definitely still scares me lol.
Looks like it's $118.98 now on ebay

Oops, I forgot to awnser your question I was so scared (lol)

Ive got to go with a cheap bootleg compressor because I'm nearing the end of my build and I'm already over budget and I still haven't upgraded my turbo yet.

Sorry, didn't mean to scare you! Loads of China tools in my box are fine and never have an issue.

I don't know about you but I've seen when a spring lets go... I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it...

The springs I was compressing where a 4x4 heavy duty items... Not your average spring.

Up to you what you do with your tools but safety first...

Agreed with Booster. I treat the compressed spring like a nuclear bomb. LOL Be very careful with them.

Those Klann knock-offs are fine. The ones with the black discs have alittle better fit for looong springs. W123 chassis needs the top hole enlarged a bit to fit the non-genuine spring compressors through. Apart from that they work fine, mine has done at least 8 sets of springs now + aided a couple of ball joints and other stuff where the springs need securing...

I used a EWK and a sir tools. Both worked great after taking a die grinder to the spring perch holes.

RE: what eBay (Chinese) spring compressor for w123? - Booster - 03-18-2015

The ones I used where external BTW, which are never as good.

Plenty of china stuff is fine, was just putting my 2p in about price -v- quality

External!? Either you don't have or you have balls of steel.......... Wow.

RE: what eBay (Chinese) spring compressor for w123? - xl.617.lx - 03-28-2015

So I ended up getting the EWK compressor, and it works great!  Its much easier to remove the spring then I thought it would be.  Its amazing how effortlessly the tool compresses the spring, then you just pull it out.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I also have just a "cheap one" for my W123. Just like the other guys, I had to enlarge the holes in the front.

I could remove the original springs, and put H&R springs in... and a friend borrowed it for his W124 and it worked too..
