om603 fuel thermostat - Whizbang - 01-25-2015

so mine has leaked for awhile and today, it became bad. So i bypassed the thermostat while retaining the heating loop so the fuel is still being heated. How important is retaining the fuel thermostat. What can i expect by not replacing the o-rings and putting it back?

hy there,
i´ve read somewhere dont remember where, the fuel heat exchanger thermostat is set to 24ºC, unless u are in a very cold place u should not need it. after a wille even witout fuel heater all fuel tank will be hot, due to the fact that fuel is running inside IP wich is heated by engine oil. the return line to the tank will cool a bit acting as heat dispenser, heating continously will result in heating all the fuel tank faster and too high since it does not have the desired cooling wich the return line provide.
the main idea behind this setup is to have the fuel at room temp as fast as possible and mantain it.
so fix it and u be fine. Wink

I have always run the fuel line from pre-filter directly to the lift pump without any notable difference... So...

I sealed mine and then decided not to use it again. I don't use the heating loop either. No problems even at -17*C.

i live in CA. not really the cold capital of the world. So its better to bypass the heating loop than to run through it without the thermostat. If its only set for 24C then, that really isnt much anyway

Run the fuel line from tank directly (with pre-filter) to fuel pump and all is good Smile
