Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-03-2014

Attached are some pictures. The spring is a mod'd - upgraded spring which will roughly double the fuel pressure of a turbo engine which should equal faster element filling.

Shipped CONUS ONLY. $40 each. I prefer only one (1) per customer so that the product will spread the word so to speak. These are already rebuilt and ready to go. It takes about 5 minutes to install.

To put this in perspective, many folks buy 5 to 6 cans of diesel purge per year which really doesn't do a whole bunch. For the same amount of money and a lot less time, you will feel a difference in your performance. I know because I have a tired 300D NA engine and I installed one of these and it made a very noticable difference in performance. I strongly suggest turbo OM617.9XX engines only.

I hope the pictures load !!!!!

I forgot to add -- one nine (9) for sale now.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - w123love - 11-03-2014

I'm confused on the parts that you are selling. Is it a spring, or is it all those parts?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-03-2014

I am selling a total of 9 overflow valves. What is being offered for sale is one overflow valve for $40 shipped CONUS and I have 9 of those for sale.

Each valve is already re-built with one spring (mod'd spring).

Each valve consists of the banjo-like bolt, ball bearing, mod'd spring, copper washer, and end cap (the 5 pieces you see of the right in the 1st piecture).

I guess I should not have pictured all other 9 springs in the background. My bad. Let me know if I am still confusing ... lol

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - capflya - 11-03-2014

Do these only work with 617/616's ? I have an om603 I could put one in... If it fits

Yes, it works also on OM603 and OM606 engines. It works on N/A as well, but I suggest its application with turbo engines.

The spring is stainless spring steel, calculated for the Mercedes engines and fatigue tested.

With the spring (actually rebuilt valve) a turbo engine will get more fuel/power without modding the pump on a bench. (It works well on a NA engine as well, but as I indicated, the most gains are felt on a turbo engine).

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Simpler=Better - 11-04-2014

FINALLY! Great job getting these together.

nice hack,.. Big Grin

what is the kg/mm (or lbs/in) on modded ones?

simpler-better did you ever established default spring rate on new spring?

cheers

I did some pretesting with the valve a while ago.
My stock fuel pressure was ~15psi. With the valve from Greazzer it did not fall below ~36psi....! Big Grin

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - TKMad - 11-06-2014

Is there some expected power increase from this mod?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-06-2014

Yes , See Post #5. Thanks.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-06-2014

Update, 6 November 2014:

Out of 10, 2 are now gone !

8 remaining.

5 folks have contacted me with the interest on getting these rather soon. Waiting on additional comments from the field from different folks and their observations. So far, I have 2 very positive votes relative to performance.

PM if interested and PayPal is the prefered method of payment.

Thanks again.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - JEvans - 11-06-2014

Curious as to why this is not recommended for the NA engines?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Simpler=Better - 11-06-2014

If I need one in like 6 months, would you sell just the spring? My project is wayyy out on the timeline

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Volker407 - 11-06-2014

(11-06-2014, 11:03 AM)JEvans Curious as to why this is not recommended for the NA engines?

With that much of a pressure increase - which delivers more fuel - a naturally aspirated engine can start to smoke because of the lack of air.
I don´t say it will, but it can. Too many parameters involved for a general statement.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - JEvans - 11-06-2014

Thanks for the answer on the NA application. I suspected as much, but wasn't sure.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - sassparilla_kid - 11-07-2014

Is this the spring/valve/banjo on the return of the pump that controls lift pump pressure or whatever? And where on the pump is it located?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Simpler=Better - 11-08-2014

(11-07-2014, 11:33 PM)sassparilla_kid Is this the spring/valve/banjo on the return of the pump that controls lift pump pressure or whatever? And where on the pump is it located?

Yes, it's on the return line. It keeps the pump full of fuel-there's a 27 page argument about stretching the old spring over on PP

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - w123love - 11-08-2014

Omagawd. I think I was trying to do this stretching mod on the wrong spring a couple years back. I messed with one on the lift pump...not on the return line. Do'h!

You should have yours on Monday. Please let us know how is performs ...

You got the correct spring now ... lol

Update for November 9, 2014:

Number of Reports regarding performance: 1 and it's thumbs up

Number for Reports pending regarding performance: 2

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - w123love - 11-10-2014

Just installed the performance overflow valve by Greazzer. I will confirm it made a difference on the butt dyno. It felt more responsive at lower RPM's. Like more torque at spool. I like it. Thanks Greazzer!

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-12-2014

No swaps or trades at this point. I have a garage full of parts that I am selling, .10 cents a pound, or just trashing. Sorry.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - SupremeTurbo617 - 11-12-2014

At .10 Cents to a pound that is 100 pounds to the dollar. I might be interested in just about everything in your garage for that price >.<
Once all of them are sold would you have the opportunity to make any more upon request?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-13-2014

Yes, once the first batch of 10 sell, I will get another 10, et cet. I am hoping the first 10 folks post comments and the comments are positive. Although the R&D and field testing is completed, there's nothing like folks chiming in saying it's a nice product or service.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Austincarnut - 11-13-2014

would these benefit the om616?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 11-14-2014

yes because the mod'd spring will increase pressure, et cet. Please see above. However, as noted, the performance enhancement is not as pronounced in a 240D pump.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - fordheaded - 11-21-2014

So I found time this morning to install the new, improved overflow valve. Drove for 30 miles, the last 15 being between 70 and 80mph, and give it a thumbs up for performance. Seems to maintain higher speeds with slower deceleration when weaving through freeway traffic. Nice job, Mark!

Thank you Sir !

I have a few left.

So, that's 4 out of 4 comments posted with thumbs up.

I need to find my cache of holders (OFVs) in my garage so I don't have folks yelling at me for being a little late. lol

Thanks again !!!

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - waz - 12-18-2014

I bought one of Greazzer's OFVs. I'm very happy with the it.
Off the line acceleration is noticeably better. The engine revs much quicker after a down shift. This change has livened up my OM602 or at least restored some lost power.

The OFV I got from Greazzer had larger holes than the one I removed. I'll see if I can attach a picture.

A side benefit for me is the increase of power is enough to make my 1-2 shift less harsh.
The throttle position seems to match the shift pressure better now.

Anyone with a OM60X engine might want to know that the OFV is on the back of the IP, between the IP and the engine. It is a bit tight to get to it without removing the intake manifold. I managed with only removing the ALDA, the connector on top of the IP and the injector lines to cylinders 4 + 5 from the IP. Another word of advice, don't drop any tools if you still have your noise encapsulation panels in place.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 12-19-2014

Thank you Sir.

My bad for assuming OM617 installation (" ... only takes around 5 minutes to install").

Only a few left in this batch. Get them while I got them ...

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - bhowell_10 - 01-03-2015

Does this spring fit on the electronically controlled IPs?

I don't remember seeing one when I took my bolt out to replace the plastic fuel line with a new one. My old one was working fine, but the o-ring on the other end and fragile plastic fitting that goes into the filter housing was original and it was an age preventative thing.

Do you have a guide to age/fatigue related recommendation for this spring replacement?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 01-04-2015

The overflow valve body is the same for all Mercedes Diesel engines with prechambers and inline pumps.
It's M12x1,5mm threaded. The OM605 with direct injection (290TD) and inline pump uses it as well; the 290TD was also produced with a distributor pump. It will also fit in a OM615 or OM621.

Applications include: OM616, OM617, OM601, OM602, OM603, OM604, OM605, OM606, OM662 as they all have the same valve body.

As for the one in cars around 30+ years old ... assuming it's the original, there's a good "guess" it is aged and fatigued.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - waz - 01-05-2015

Hey, do you have any more available?
My friend bought a '93 300D and I'm sure his will show even more improvement than mine did. It's a bit lazy.

It would be a perfect birthday present.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 02-15-2015

Quick update:

I HAVE 30 MORE NEW SPRINGS IN STOCK, SO I AM TAKING ORDERS AGAIN.

THANKS !

THANKS !

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 02-16-2015

Yes, I believe there have been a few folks who installed the spring in an OM616 engine.

Out of 20 customers, I have 20 two-thumbs up so far. I think it's fair to say that the spring works at this juncture as the install has been in a lot of different engines, e.g., OM616, 617, 603, 606 and everyone has indicated they have noticed a positive difference. Just waiting for the "first" person to indicate "no difference."

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - bricktron - 02-17-2015

where did the idea for this device come from, mark?

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 02-17-2015

It's just and R&R item, part of the fueling process / system and compliments injectors.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - waz - 02-18-2015

Hey Mark, don't forget my OM602 in your list of engines that have seen positive results by using your OFV.
Thanks again.
Still need to get my friends and my calendars to line up before we can get his installed. That plus the garages is occupied for a head gasket on a Nissan and it's just too cold outside. My dash thermometer read -1f for my drive to work this morning. Now that I've seen the minus sign works,,,  I would be happier if I never see it again.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 02-21-2015

I think I have sold the upgraded performance OFV spring for virtually all possible MB applications now,

OM616,

OM617,

OM601,

OM602,

OM603,

OM604,

OM605,

OM606,

So far, everyone has given it 2 thumbs up.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Captain America - 02-26-2015

I'll take one sir! Sending PM

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 02-26-2015

PM'd back. Thanks again !

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 05-28-2015

Here is one OFV which is already rebuilt, $40 shipped CONUS. So, no need to rebuild it yourself. I found one, so here it is. First pay, first get. On an OM617.9XX application, it takes around 5 minutes to install. Thanks in advance

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 05-29-2015

That went quick ...

I still have PLENTY of springs for sale, however, the general feel is that folks want the entire unit rebuilt vs. re-building theirs. I am investigating trying to get another cache of core OFVs or finding the 7 or so in my garage.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Captain America - 05-31-2015

Didn't matter to me!

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - lgreeley83 - 06-14-2015

Mark I'm in.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - DrewGerhan - 07-02-2015

Got mine in the mail yesterday and threw it in this morning.

For anyone confused about how to install, its a 17mm bolt on the IP in the space between it and the engine.

I have to say that the butt dyno likes it. Engine Seems more responsive and peppy. Money well spent.

RE: Performance Overflow Valve - Greazzer - 09-25-2015

Update:

I am down to my last 10 OFV springs. Not sure when I will get a new batch and not 100% sure I will continue selling them.

So far, excluding the remaining 10, I have sold (I believe) 70. I know this last batch was 60 in number and trying to figure out the number in the last batch. It was an increment of 10. I do not recall if the prior batch was 10 or 20.

So far, every single person has given the spring 2 thumbs up except one (which was the last one sold). One person claims after the install, his car was incredibly difficult to start, battery wore down while cranking and cranking, and it had little power after it did start. Plus, now a claimed possible alternator issue.

Overall, no earthly clue how any of that was possibe or could be possible. The spring is a maintenance item, just like changing a sparkplug, or an air filter, or oil, et cet. It restores the proper pressure and slightly enhances it for better performance.

However, I like to have full disclosure. What puzzles me is that 69 (or 79) other folks who swapped out the spring reported their car fired up just fine, no issues, et cet. I was the first person to try it out, and the operation on my car took less than 10 minutes and my car fired right up and I noticed a real difference immediately. Many folks who installed one did PM'd me and reported the same exact thing.

So, because of the one hiccup, once these last 10 sell out, I will decide if I want to sell any more. Because I did these sales for the hobby and my "profit" margin was virtually non-existent, it may not be worth the risk.

So, PM if you want one of the last 10. Thanks for reading.

Did he overhaul his presupply pump and ALL rubber hoses?
A very worn presupply pump will have trouble to ventilate the fuel system no matter which part you change.
