EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 10-29-2014

Hello guys,

The mighty 190D is scrapped because of rust, crakcs in every subframe fixing points++++.... Engine and gearbox is still alive, and all the good partsSmile

The new car is a JDM supra TT 1995, bought it without engine and tranny...Perfect for meBig Grin
The supra has the big brakes and big diff (low gear ratio) as standard.
It came also coilovers with adjustable hardness.
So why not build a mean trippel turbo compounded diesel machine and mount it in the supra???

Turbosetup is: 2x Holset he221W and one big sized to the two smaller he221W.
Dieselpump will be the 300cc 77500rpm+ high stroke camshaft that me and Gøran aka Dieselmeken bulitSmile

Lets name the car The "WIN Diesel" Supra Big Grin

Let the game begin!

From when i picked it up:

That is sick!! Do you know how hard those Supras are to find?!
Good for you!!
I'm anxiously awaiting progress. This is gonna be legendary!!

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - Alcaid - 10-29-2014

You would be much better off with a properly built twin scroll manifold and a HX40 Super as the HP turbo. Twin turbo can not compete with the benefits of twin scroll. You need an 18cm exhaust housing to have the same turbine choke flow as 2 x HE221W 7cm. Compressor efficiency is also much better on the HX40 vs. the HE221W

Maybe a super 40 with 14cm housing?

You will need to swap the gearbox if you want to keep up with the fast and furious guys. Will need 20 gears at least lol.

This time i must build a trippel turbo....!

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 11-07-2014

Made some brackets and got a BMW E39 steering rack mounted, it has a ratio of 3:1
I am getting full lock both directions, so very happy with the conversion!

So now it is soon to be LHD Big Grin

Just tackwelded a bracket ( This will be modified for much better strength):
[Image: 20141106_225932_zpsc38xvcfz.jpg]

Rim/tyre hitting the lower support arm:
[Image: 20141106_225957_zpsmlmwhbyh.jpg]

Need to move the steering collum over to the left side and mate it to the BMW steering rack:
[Image: 20141106_234847_zps16npy4mw.jpg]

Have now much better room for turbo+downpipe:
[Image: 20141106_234857_zpst8hr7tvk.jpg]

Have good steering angle:
[Image: 20141106_234933_zpsuvvdnnrt.jpg]

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 11-09-2014

Update:

Have welded the support for the steering rack, need prep and paint.
[Image: IMG_5143_zpscb391ac0.jpg]

Made a steering joint that fits on the steering rack and supra`s steering collum:

Stock BMW E49 joint:
[Image: IMG_5135_zpsd9efb3e8.jpg]
[Image: IMG_5136_zps2baa08b3.jpg]
[Image: IMG_5137_zps08ea5ef2.jpg]

Supra and BMW joint:
[Image: IMG_5139_zpsae9e5e3d.jpg]

One finished joint:
[Image: IMG_5145_zpsc7c6ec17.jpg]

To get more out of the steering rack i will make some spacers for the inner joints.
I can get 8mm more without the joints, so i will make a 7mm spacer so the rack bottoms out on the joint and not on the rack itself:

Stock stop point:
[Image: IMG_5151_zps92d368b7.jpg]

8mm further:
[Image: IMG_5152_zps02d94d8c.jpg]

This last 8mm does a whole lot on the steering angle! Will post pictures when it is mounted finallyWink

Stay tuned for more fun^^

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 11-12-2014

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 02-24-2015

Hi all,

time for an update. Have tore the motor down, built my High Pressure turbo and started on the manifold.

The turbo build:

Bought a brand new Holset HX35 with 50mm inducer comp wheel, watercooled center and 14cm wg exhaust housing.
Changed to a custom 56mm billet compwheel (hx35 was never delivered with this wheelsize) and housing and fitted a 12cm non-wg exhaust housing.

New parts:

[Image: 20150207_163317_zps1ca30754.jpg]

I have also started to build the manifold, just tack welded everything together to see if it fits the car.

First i found the hight the turbo needs to sit:

[Image: 20150210_114347_zpsbabd38a0.jpg]

Then started the puzzle:

[Image: 20150212_001023_zps8680bbc8.jpg]
[Image: 20150212_003052_zps0e84cc09.jpg]

[Image: 20150212_011536_zps075f7e4d.jpg]

Test fitted the manifold and turbo in the car:

[Image: 20150212_020254_zps06dbfdb3.jpg]

[Image: 20150212_020334_zps3a5989e7.jpg]

I have also started on the maingirdle, that also will function as a dry sump:

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - Sjevsspeed.nl - 02-25-2015

damn dry sump, did u take the rest of the system of another car or fabricating everything urself?

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - saquzi - 02-28-2015

That drysump plate looks heavy... 6/8mm plate on the gasget points should do it good enough!

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 02-28-2015

First one was 6mm, too thin...

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - saquzi - 02-28-2015

Why was it too thin?

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 03-01-2015

Because it would just bend and twist...It will be working as a maingirdle and drysump, therefor it must be thick! Weight is no problem when it sits so low

+1 on this. I made mine from high carbon cold rolled steel at .750 thickness. Also I enlarged all the oil pan bolts to 8x1.25 and used arp studs throughout the pan bolts and main bolts. No dry sump for me though..
Nice work as always

I could be it would not be very cost effective.. i posted the design on the patterns section of this forum for anyone to use. It's in a auto-cad file and could be used straight away by a machinist.

can you please link it so I can find it, have been trying without succes for a wile...

How did you do with the bearing bracket and to get right bearing play with torque on the bults under the support bearing for the chank shaft if I may ask?

http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/attachment.php?aid=7080

there are spacer welded on to the girdle between the main bearing cap and the base of the girdle. the use of longer studs is needed

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - Turbo - 03-01-2015

Thank you dunkan for the drawing

As I have understud it when the gridle is made and the bearing bracket is put under (welded or not) and the stud is put in place with right torque bearing play need to be put to the right value by grinding with special tool, this since from one block to the other differ to much, Have I get this completly wrong?

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - Turbo - 03-03-2015

Daniel what do you think about the alignment/ clearance?

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - EDH_Performance - 03-03-2015

Very important is that when the maingirdle is bolted down, it does not put any extra stresses to the main bearing caps...Meaning the whole purpose is to maintain position on the main bearing cap in both down and side to side movement! Therefore it is not necsessary to linebore the main bearings, but i recomend to check the lineboring to be safe. The tolerances of the bearings caps should not alter with or without a miangirdle!

Just take a test, if you have acsess to a complete bottom end...Take a medium flat screwdriver and stick in betwheen a main bearing cap and crankshaft and try to bend. It will bend with not much force, therefor the need of a main bearing girlde when this extreme forces is put down to the crankshaft.

My maingirdle is thick because it is not only holding the bearings in place, it holds the whole crankshaft from being pushed down and out of the block. ARP bolts is to be used along with bigger bolts around where the original was used m6...

Seen blocks and main bearings break with high nm/hp numbers, so better build it strong from day oneSmile

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - atypicalguy - 12-27-2015

This is all really nice.

Will be interested to see it go.

I think Turbo has a point about the transient characteristics of the boost. It would be great to have something that did not need to bypass the hp turbo turbine or compressor.

I wonder what combination of turbos Stamsaas finally used on that Corolla?

RE: EDH_Performance --> The "WIN DIESEL" Supra - Turbo - 12-30-2015

Nice to see some progress, may I ask why you move the engine so fare back? space reason? centre of gravity?
