about to start om606 project - yatzee - 10-17-2014

Hi guys

Finally got the om606 out of the a very rusted 99 E300 donor car.

Now that it's on my garage floor, what attention should I give to it prior to installing it into my w126? The pump will be sent to Goran during the winter, but should I replace anything else while I'm at it?

The engine was running in the donor car - seemed fine to me - no knocks or anything like that.

Thanks

Hi.

You should look over the intake cam sprocket. That one has a tendency to slip on the camshaft. Best thing is to drill a little hole and put a end stud in there.

Use n/a cams if you are able, the intake cam has 2mm higher lift than the stock turbo cam.

Change valve springs! The hydraulic lifters don't like high revs without harder springs. And Görans IPs do like to rev Big Grin

Similar stuff I've done:

Oil and filters change?

Think about how you want to route your fuel piping to and from the fuel filter as the 603 mechanical pump will have different (better) connections compared to the EDC pump.

Remove and blank all things EGR on the 606. - Do something with the EGR valve on the inlet manifold.

Remove the viscous coupling.

Remove the AC pump and source a shorter belt - keeping AC?>

Check oil cooler fittings on oil filter housing as hose lengths may need to change.

Work out what you're going to do with the crank speed / tacho sensor mounted on the engine block side of the flywheel.

Check condition of alternator pulley - its one way bearing and literally shears off! Happened to me: Alternator our job to fit a new pulley - not fun.

Replace sump oil temp sensor o-ring - they all weep.

Injectior lines will need to be removed and angles into IP tweaked slightly for 603 pump.

You will need a pump locking tool for the 603 IP install.

Autobox cooler lines are bolted along the sump bolt line - usually need removing / repositioning.

Et-al.
