87 190d 2.5 Turbo - frigg - 08-07-2009

I looked at a 190d 2.5 Turbo that's for sale. It has 170k miles, a crappy repaint, a single tank wvo conversion, no blowby and it smokes considerably. Smoke seems white or gray but there's no sign of head gasket leaks in the oil or radiator overflow. It was noisy on startup and both the noise and smoke did lessen a bit after it warmed up. Just about everything else is unknown like what fuel is in the tank. I'm wondering if it could be fuel related or if a head gasket without other symptoms. Is there a way quick way to diagnose? Thanks, Frigg

RE: 87 190d 2.5 Turbo - 2.5-10 - 08-07-2009

my 2.5 turbo smokes when its below 40 degrees quite a bit - same color, not sure why but my motor is 100% tip-top.

if it still smokes more than 30 seconds after startup when its this warm outside, there is a problem.
