Biggest brakes for under 15" wheel (w124 / w201) - Whizbang - 09-03-2014

For the sake of a rally car, I am limited to 15" wheels. What is the biggest arrangement that can fit? I have heard through searching that an OEM four piston that can work under the 15" wheel but never verified. Cruising through parts catalogs for various models didn't help much. All I have encountered was the E320 type brakes which require 16" wheels.

Thanks!

the four pot on the 24v 300CE i got had 15" wheels paired with them, so those should be an option Big Grin

think it was from 1992, and the parts should be a direct fit on atleast the regular w124 i think. have both the calipers+disc stored so could get some measurments later tomorrow.

Was it a North America model? (to the Google!)

well found them in the parts store catalog for the 300CE with the DOHC engine. So i think ill order them in and see how it goes.

All cars with M104 engine have 15" wheels, be it the 300E-24 or the E320. They just require a-arms with fixed ball joints. AND not ALL 15" wheels fit!! Most 8-hole alloys do, though.

an european version, i think atleast, was here in sweden, and we dont exactly have many US w124coupes Smile

the only 16" equiped w124 should be the 500E i think Smile (and perhaps 400E)

For the front (top row) 295x22 and 294x25 4 piston found on 93-95 W124s. On a racecar you're going to want the thicker rotors. For the rear (botom row) 290x10 found on some 95 E320 wagons and most W210s. The pad area on these is huge compared to all the others.

My 1995 w124 E320 has 15" alu OEM wheels, but regular steel wheels dont fit

We fitted these to ours with stock 15"s, I think they are from a W124, probably the V8 one..

ATE number? Piston diameter? Only early 400E brake will fit under 15" aluminium wheels (not all 15"). 500E 16" only.

Will w124 four pots work with 284mm discs or do you have to use the 295mm ones?

I won't be using 15s, I'll be running 17s but they're 3 piece & the perimeter bolts might foul.

where did you get those?

Aren't the #38 & #39 castings(can see a 38 on the one in the bottom of the picture) usually 300e 24V calipers? & the #49 #50 castings usually e320?

There's also an ATE 4 pot that was used on R107 SLs (& can fit w126, not sure about w123 & earlier though) but I don't know what numbers are cast into those.

Are you shure about the r107s fitting w126 and w123s?

since the r107 and the w114/w115 share the same front end, and the w123 and w126 share the same.

have the big w126 gen2 brakes on the front of two w123s, where you can swap a lot of parts in the front between these two chassis. its plug and play, remove disc, bolt bigger on on hub, put back together, change caliper, drive.

the r107, (w116 i think) and w114/w115 share the same front end, and from what ive learned, the only upgrade for the w115 is the r107 brakes.

the w123+w126 has the calipers mounted towards the rear of the car (behind the disc) where the w115 has the caliper at the front.

to bleed the system (the "bleed-nozzle" at the top of the caliper), and if they acctualy fit against the disc, one would have to put the r107s right side caliper on the left side of a w126, and left caliper on the right side.

Sorry I've only just seen this reply.

They are W124 300CE-24 calipers and discs, direct fit under the stuck w201 15's but  super ninja tight clearance between rotor and wheel.
