Differences OM662 - Max - 08-03-2014

Hi,

does anyone of you know if there are any Differences between the Turboversion of the Ssangyong OM662 and the om662 N/A Version ?

Does the Turboversion have any other Rods, Pistons or Oilspray Nozzels ?

OM602 Turbo has different Pistons, Head etc.. then the N/A om602.

Thanks a lot

Max

Hi!

i think i'm the best man to answer that question.

Exactly there's three version of 662's

1. N/A 662(2.9ltr 602)
2. 662LA(2.9ltr 602LA)
Those two engines are made of 2.5 602 head + late sprinter 602 2.9 block

and the Third one is called ''OM662LA STP''

1. producing miserable 95hp
2. producing littlebit miserable 120hp
3. producing acceptable 132hp

Difference between 1,2

Everything!!!! Pistons, Con-rods, crankshaft, injection pump(ALDA)
but the same head

and third one is way much better

Fortified piston, con-rod and bigger, improved water lines, oil lines
6mm IP, bigger pre-chamber

Sorry for my bad english and hope this would help you

Hello from Finland. My first here.

I have to say that OM662 NA engine has oil spray nozzles to cool pistons bottom and NA connecting rod has channel inside to move oil to piston pin.

That rod is the weak spot of that engine but changing to turbo rods and pistons it can take a lot of power. Of course, if you want to rev that sucker to 7400rpm you have to put stronger valve springs etc. Those original turbo pistons are strong enough so you dont have to worrie about those. I have tested that on my old engine in Ssangyong Musso with 2,5 bar Holset hx35 and i have now replaced that old engine to OM605 turbo engine. Just have to change turbo to holset hx40 or similar and check what happens to transmission Big Grin
That picture is from OM662 NA engine block with stock oil spray nozzles.

these are direct injected right? do you have to tune them with software?

RE: Differences OM662 - barrote - 04-16-2015

hello boys,
the million dólar question for those who know about 662´s: is the crankshaft main bearings and both ends the same as 605 crank?
or better said: is the 662 Turbo block same size as the 602 block and consequently the same size as the 605?
idea is to change a 605.96X to 2.9 and DI it!!!

RE: Differences OM662 - MarkusJVainio - 04-19-2015

OM662 engines are not direct injected.

OM662 are pre-chamber engines.

..And to barrote:
OM662 crankshaft main bearing journal diameter standard size is 57,950mm to 57,965mm
And
OM605 main bearing journal diameter standard size is 57,959mm to 57,965mm

I know that om605 crank is different than om662 2.9l. The stroke is longer on OM662 engine.
OM662 2.9l and OM602 2.9l blocks are same size BUT Om662 2.9l and OM602 2.5L are different. 2.5 is shorter.

I think that you cannot use OM605 2.5l crankshaft on OM662 2.9l engine because OM605 crank have shorter stroke.
OM605 stroke is 84mm and OM662 is 92,4mm.. So if you take OM662 block and machine 8,4mm out of it then you maybe can use OM605 crankshaft Big Grin

Just kidding with the last oneSmile

RE: Differences OM662 - barrote - 04-20-2015

ye ye , i did not understood well what i was asking!!!
the idea is to build a 605 2.9 brother.
and the question relates to the camshaft lenght bearings and rods, if i can be able to use a 662/602 2.9 crank in a 605 block ?
that is what i´m after , at the moment i dont have 2 of them asside.
since u guys have them out maybe u´ll be glad to measure the dimensions.
that would be of great help, for sure i should have something else for trade.
regards

RE: Differences OM662 - MarkusJVainio - 04-20-2015

Sorry, i was confusedBig Grin

If you get 8,4mm shorter connecting rods, then you can switch those cranks.

Those cranks are both the same except that stroke. So, compensating that stroke with shorter rod will do the trickSmile

If you want i can measure later 662 crank.

MaybeBig Grin

RE: Differences OM662 - barrote - 04-21-2015

do happen to have a 662 engine block? and cam and rods? if u do and u´re able to take some measures for me would be great?
block height, lenght , crankshaft lenght, bearing size, chain coupling and elastomeric (front damper) thats all for now.
Thanks that would be of terrible help.

RE: Differences OM662 - Petar - 04-21-2015

I think he will only need 4.2mm shorter connecting rods, half of the stroke increase.
BTW stock 2.5 rods are 149mm and 2.9 are 145mm.

RE: Differences OM662 - barrote - 05-11-2015

hy fine people,
and about the million dólar question???
the posibility of fitting the 662 crank in the 605 block? the question is about the fitting in the block, do u think it will fit relating to main bearings and ends?
thanks

Interesting. Do you know what years had the 132hp version? I'm wondering if that's what is referred to as a "high output" version over here. If it is true that this version has 6mm pump elements then that's got some potential for easy horsepower.
