Harder valve springs OM603 - Flakis - 01-17-2014

trashed my old 603 for missed gear on the valve spring had little time "/
So, I thought if anyone here knows any harder valve springs you can take on the mount instead? Smile
Thanks in advance

try and look here from duncansport 602 project tread

RE: 1991 300D

Well head is just about done, new valve guides, minor bowl porting, new valves, weled up some pitting on head surface and finally the M103 valve springs.
The M103 springs are an exact match as far as size. However the wire diameter is 1mm larger and compressed to 1" they offer almost 100lbs more of pressure..

Are you the guy with the n/a 603 engine which hit 8.000 rpm? Big Grin

I thought n/a springs are weaker than the turbo'd ones.

Btw how many hp have you had with that engine? I got a n/a 603 with 7mm and hx35 and I'm amazed how well it goes and holds up for a n/a. Got it up to 2.5 bar pressure Big Grin

They're $6.75/each retail price at the local dealer. Not sure what they run in Sweden but just wanted to post since I've found recently that some parts are actually cheaper at the dealer than at aftermarket part suppliers.

Is there an advantage to the stronger springs on a stock engine? I'm prepping to do my #22 head swap and may use those springs. I'm not familiar with the advantages of a stronger valve spring? I plan to mod some things but mainly just IP/Turbo/intercooler type stuff.

Stock no but may help with valve float. Good to know the 103 spring works. I will plan on this for my rebuild.
