OM606: Mechanical combo - Sigrm - 12-16-2013

So I've been reading a lot of threads about the OM606(962/964) with a mechanical IP from OM603, and it seems like consensus around here that this package together with a manual transmission requires no electronics. I am considering an engine swap into a 300GD together with a 716.~640 transmission, and want to know if I've understood correctly: are all you need fuel, throttle, cooling and glow plugs for this baby to function properly? Never seen this engine up close before, but it sure seems like a good one.

PS. Sorry if this question has been answered clearly in another thread, but I couldn't find it in the vast amount of knowledge on this forum! Kudos to you guys

There are vacuum/ECU controls on the .962 that require bypassing as well, e.g. the wastegate and EGR valve but they're easily overcome. Fit a pressure wastegate and delete EGR.

Ah, just the type of info I was looking for. Thanks!

I assume that "deleting" the EGR means to just take the whole thing away, right? If that is all, then I'm really beginning to like the idea of this engine in the G.

That looks good! Is it yours? If so: did you make your own engine mounts, or did you buy them? I'm prepared to make my own, but i don't know what they should look like in regards to thickness and steel quality (...and shape, haha). Do you have a photo? Or links?

cheers

I'd say that anything thicker than 1/4" (~6mm) would be fine. I'm planning on 1/2" & 3/8" though, gives me more wiggle room
