Yes sir those were the ones! I just ended up with another set on Saturday. They'll be going on the wagon. Smile

The PO of my car was a wealthy Benz enthusiast so he bought the flaps and headlamps before I got the car. It also came with some OEM Benz all weather floor mats.

WOW I love your wagon..... Do mine next!

Which brings me to a dilemma... Alter my 85 or keep it original... It's a true 85 Euro TDT Everything in the car is in German lol.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 10-27-2013

By the way the engine is currently all kinds of fucked up. Took a giant crap on my dad while he was driving it to the airport. Currently is severely lacking power, and has a smoking problem. Might be time to start searching for a OM603... Undecided

Hahahaha thanks.

I say mod it, I like doing mods that are easily reversible, especially on cars that I plan on selling later on. So far my urge to sell my wagon is low.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - NGARover - 10-27-2013

I hear you. I love my wagon and I drive it everyday. I've put almost 20k on it since I bought it. I bought it the day after selling my 82 wagon (the black one) and then having seller remorse. Once I'm driving the 87 the 85 will be getting all the love, going to strip it and redo it.

check out the ALDA line and over boost solenoid if they crap out it kills the power and makes them smoke and preform like a 240

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 10-28-2013

Go from driving a 500hp Porsche to a w123.... That'd be one hell of a change! Lol Big Grin

I haven't seen my car since august, but when I last saw it the over boost solenoid was deleted, and the alda was functioning. I went as far as cleaning the banjo bolts.

Heh thankfully I don't have that problem, the 911 is my dad's daily. I'm personally trying for a arena red 993tt. Big Grin

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 10-31-2013

I have an hy35 if you wanna go that route. Gated at 30psi it's whole life, wasn't abused, no shaft play if your interested we can talk

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 11-01-2013

Snagged a VDO boost gauge on amazon. I'll probably buy another ashtray and drill the face of it for EGT, boost, usb, and 12 volt.

I might go that route, it would probably be like 2 months before I decide though. My car is in Washington, and I'm in California.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - willbhere4u - 11-01-2013

I use to have a VDO boost gauge EGT gauge and oil temp in my 240d turbo under the ash tray in a vw mount

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 11-01-2013

Well if you want one, just let me know and we can figure something out Smile

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 12-01-2013

Wow! That's pretty crazy. Glad everything is still good! Besides the charger of course

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - JB3 - 12-01-2013

holy crap! amazing

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - sassparilla_kid - 12-01-2013

Lololololololol, probably because they're thin aluminum they just got smushed and melted and exited as vapor, although how they got past the intake valves is puzzling. You seriously need to keep that compressor wheel though

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - Simpler=Better - 12-02-2013

I bet that made some noise when it was letting loose

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 12-02-2013

Time for a Big charger!

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - willbhere4u - 12-02-2013

Definitely pull the intake manifold and look down the ports to make sure there are not any remains stuck behind the valves!!!

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 12-03-2013

(12-01-2013, 11:25 AM)MFSuper90 Wow! That's pretty crazy. Glad everything is still good! Besides the charger of course
Yeah def a bit of a eye opener.
(12-01-2013, 11:30 AM)JB3 holy crap! amazing
I know right, scary as shit, especially considering I've never noticed any side to side shaft play.

(12-01-2013, 12:38 PM)sassparilla_kid Lololololololol, probably because they're thin aluminum they just got smushed and melted and exited as vapor, although how they got past the intake valves is puzzling. You seriously need to keep that compressor wheel though
It'll be going on the wall me thinks. lol

(12-02-2013, 09:23 AM)Simpler=Better I bet that made some noise when it was letting loose
My dad didn't even notice it when it happened. Maybe his hearing aids were turned off. Big Grin
(12-02-2013, 10:34 AM)MFSuper90 Time for a Big charger!
Starting to think it might be holsett time.
(12-02-2013, 06:01 PM)willbhere4u Definitely pull the intake manifold and look down the ports to make sure there are not any remains stuck behind the valves!!!
Will do when I fix it. As of right now it starts, idles, and runs fantastically as a non turbo. Rolleyes

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - JB3 - 12-03-2013

I have a new theory, and it involves your dad and a pair of needle nose pliers

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 12-03-2013

(12-03-2013, 05:15 PM)JB3 I have a new theory, and it involves your dad and a pair of needle nose pliers

Hahaha I don't think so. It happened while he was on the highway heading to work. He had sold his ranger, and had no daily so he planned to daily my wagon... That didn't work out too well. But on the other hand it got him to go out and buy another w211 lol.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 12-04-2013

In and out shaft play is what you really have to watch for

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 12-05-2013

(12-04-2013, 06:24 PM)MFSuper90 In and out shaft play is what you really have to watch for

Got it!

If anyone has a stock turbo in good shape, I need one asap. Would also prefer if it was a KKK.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - willbhere4u - 12-06-2013

Upgrade to the kkk k26 while your at it. It cam on 1985 300sd and a few other years It spools faster that the t3 and is a direct bolt on

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 12-06-2013

I have a stock charger, but it needs rebuilt before I would feel comfortable selling it to anyone. Or that hy35 is always here too Wink

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - mike-81-240d - 12-11-2013

The car is currently at a friends shop, who happens to be a very skilled MB indy mechanic. The replacement KKK K26 off ebay should be there today.

On another note I'm thinking about dumping a lot of money on a drivers side Recaro Ideal C seat for it next week.

What did you sell the pair for if you don't mind me asking? This one is a BW member local to my home back in Seattle. It's power, heated, leather, and comes with the brackets to bolt into a W123. He wants $500.

I got $275 for the pair but they needed to be completely redone the cloth was torn all over and the LH frame was bent slightly. They were very ruff.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 12-28-2014

Yeah, pictures!!
And I can tell you an hx30 sounds badass on a 617, you just need more fuel to take complete advantage of it. I'm runnin 18lbs of boost, stock pump turned wayyy up, A/W, and my EGTs max out at 1300 on a long pull up a 10-15% grade.

Honestly, for no more money than I have in my hx30 swap it's worth is purely for the beautiful whistle Big Grin

Appreciate it.

I bought a HX30 that was formerly owned by Rolf.

Haven't had time to hack off the EGR crap to make the turbo fit.

RE: Mike's 1981 300TD wagon - MFSuper90 - 04-24-2015

Make sure you have a 6cm^2 housing and not a 12cm. Our little engines will never spool a 12cm within reason
