Easy to swap elements from om606 IP to om603 IP? - hooblah - 09-18-2013

Ive got an electronic om606 IP and would like to swap the elements into my om603 IP. Is this an easy job or should I not bother?

It is not rocket science but should be done by a injection pump shop and needs to be calibrated.

I swapped 7mm elements in my 603 pump myself. It's possible and not that hard. However your pump needs calibrating by a diesel shop.

To what spec does it need calibrating?

there are 2 categories of car owners. the first category actually like their car engine and wants it to run as smooth and be as balanced as possible. And they also like it to use as little fuel as possible and last a long time.
The second category don't care about any of these properties as long as they get more power.
So if you belong in the second category, go ahead and change them yourself.

Whats that supposed to mean?

It means that you will not be able to adjust the pump yourself and your engine will run like crap but you will probably get more power

Well obviously I would get it calibrated by a specialist, but I need to know what parameters it would need to be calibrated to. If someone could supply that info I would be most grateful.

ANy diesel specialist can balance the elements for quantity, and you can adjust min / max flow.

They would need to have experience with MBZ diesel engines to know how to modify the govenor though IMHO.

I have spoken to a Bosch diesel specialist, they are able to do the swap for me but they have also told me that it will need to be calibrated, but I must tell them how I want it calibrating! You'd assume they'd know but apparently not :/

Clearly I don't know, so I was hoping someone here would be able to tell me.

Hario in what way does the governor need modifying?

RE: Easy to swap elements from om606 IP to om603 IP? - Hario' - 07-09-2014

I'm not sure as I'm retaining the EDC pump in my c250 so I didn't learn.

I think the idle quantity needs to be reset to standard, I literally read it the other day in a dieselmeken post, 14cc IIRC.

And the fueling curve will be different with different elements, the govenor controlls this, hence it needs modifying, I'm sure by a specialist with experience with the particular application. BEcause its fly weights, springs and magic.

On the subject of 6mm elements. Are the OM606 elements the same as the OM605 turbo elements found in the electronic pump?

Yes they are

So it looks like I need the test sheet for a pump with 6mm elements in order to achieve the correct calibration. Anyone know where I can source this?

RE: Easy to swap elements from om606 IP to om603 IP? - barrote - 07-12-2014

if u can find one, lets say "the governor calibration sheet for 80 mm3" max output, 6000RPM high idle, low idle at 10mm3, values for alda increase, i´m interested as well.
BUT i did that swap, and left my governor as it was, achieved 18 percent increase in fueling at max output. for the moment is enough for my engine, soon soon i´ll be in another project and i will need some more fuel.
Mr Dieselmeken, can provide that sheet, he´s been doing that for long time, maybe he will be willing to share that info, that would be great. why don´t ask him to.
Regards to u all
