Not liking the look of my current rims I have been looking at Kijiji - dangerous I know - and found a set of 17X8 +35mm. As it is Sunday morning and I have yet to devour enough coffee to jump start the brain I cant remember if I will need spacers for my W123.
Believe someone was running +37 so shouldnt have fitment issues, but once again the brain shes a little groggy right now.

runs ET35 17" rims on my w123 without problem, they are tight at the front, keep the weights for balance glued on the inside and not hammered on the outside (at the inside)
16" et35 didint work, but the slightly wider 17" did.
