VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-09-2013

i bought a used VNT turbo, owner didn't know where it came from but it was cheap so i bought it. it has a 45mm compressor wheel and 65mm turbine wheel, exhaust flange is T3, on the compressor housing is a nr with a mercedes star on so i gues its from mercedes, does anybody know what type and if its good for an om617 in a G for off road?[Image: 406897470.jpg]

45mm inducer, that thing would be super quick spool being a vnt!
Correct me if I am wrong but I believe stock is around 40mm, so that turbo should work nicely in my opinion Smile

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-09-2013

that would be great, should it work with just a boost actuator to control it?

RE: VNT turbo - aaa - 06-10-2013

Wow a t3 vnt, pretty cool.

Boost actuator would not be ideal, without some sort of throttle input you'd have to avoid fully closing the vanes (which is kinda the point of a vnt). I'd like to throw out the idea of EGP actuating, seems like it might be less likely to bog the engine down while still closing the vanes as much as possible.

A mercedes t3 vnt! Can you type those part numbers in for those of us with old eyes?

RE: VNT turbo - majesty78 - 06-10-2013

Its a 466520-0001 loooooong, very loooong time out of production.

Actually at this time VNT didn't even officially exist ^^

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-10-2013

I already guesed its not the original compressor housing

RE: VNT turbo - MFSuper90 - 06-10-2013

If your not very electronically inclined (like me), you could do a spring setup. With a mechanical stop to keep it from closing completely

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-10-2013

But how can i control boost pressure with a spring?

RE: VNT turbo - Simpler=Better - 06-10-2013

DIY boost controller:

How do you come to this conclusion?

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-10-2013

Because i can't find any mercedes turbo's that look like that and the person i bought it from said he bought it from a tuning company

(06-10-2013, 11:47 AM)Gforce But how can i control boost pressure with a spring?

Having good spool up and being able to control boost with a spring setup is tough.
Most people do it on setups which are meant to make maximium boost the turbo/ fuel setup will allow.

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-10-2013

i think i will make a setup with trottle and boost, when on full trottle vanes are fully closed and then when boost is created the boost acurater will push the vanes open, trottle will be connected with a spring

I always thought the way Lance did it was intriguing and would likely do something similar if I ever get far enough ahead of the power curve to install mine:

he also has some updates/insights posted on whatever forum he was last hanging around at...if he didnt wear out his welcome over there yet...

RE: VNT turbo - Gforce - 06-18-2013

i have the vnt mounted on the om617, if the oil lines where a bit longer they would fit straight on. now i need to find a solution to connect it to the intake manifold. I also have a water cooled intercooler lying around but i don't know if it is ok for this engine?I am also gona send my pump to dieselmeken for 7,5mm elements

it can build a good turbo (need to know the size and geometry of the shaft)
