Upgrade Charger for an OM602 - orion - 05-29-2013

Hello,

i am searching for an upgrade Turbocharger for my OM602 DE29LA. I´m looking for an early response and maximum 200hp and 400 torque.
Is the GT25R dual ball bearing turbocharger a step in the right direction or maybe someone has an other good idea to implement my plan?

Thanks in advance

Orion, I have the same motor, however I just made my motor strictly mechanical. YES! There were issues with static timing, but they were overcome. The BIG issue now is that the motor is (get this) starved for fuel! I have unscrewed the gross fuel valve 3.5 turns and it drives GREAT!!! However it will not shut off! due (I believe) to the idle increasing with the max fuel. Let face it... the shut off solenoid on VE pumps are not that "hefty". So get this... No matter how hard I've tried (And I HAVE "lead foot" tried) I could not get my OM602de2.9la (with a mechanical pump) over 980F.

all being said, YES our motors need more "turbo love"!

I'll share with you (and the rest of your as well)... if you share with me in return.

thus far i got a om602.962 with stock turbo and stock elements in pump.

with the pump dialed up 3.5turns i had realy bad cold start, and the engine didnt return to idle proper, no use of downshift to decrease speed etc. quite undrivable.
at 3.5 turn the stock turbo gave me about 1.6bar of boost.

the pump is dialed up about 2 turns now, returns to idle properly.
the stock turbo now gives about 1.3 bar of boost.

on the way is a 180cc 7.5mm pump, previous owner of that pump had stock om602 engine with stock turbo, and the turbo gave about 2.6bar of boost, he said the safelimit for the turbo should be about 2bar of boost, so he turned the turbo down to give max 1.5 something.

it seems to me that the stock turbo should do fine for your 200bhp aim, wich is also what i am aiming at, if not less. got to find a transmission that keeps the gears together, havent found any figures on my 717.430 gearbox.

I will take the VP-IP again with a 11mm or 12mm Piston. I think the IP in this condition give me enough fuel for 200bhp. Otherwise i spend the engine nozzles with bigger holes. I won´t go to a mechanical pump.
I can believe that the stock turbo makes a lot of pressure, apart from that i thing the boost is very late on this high level. I need round about 1,8bar at 1800rpm for my intentions, therefor i need a modern charger with an appropriate geometry.

The stock piston in the IP is 11mm. Granted you folks in the EC have greater access to Bosch components, however you may have a hard time finding a 12mm piston and body for a right hand 5 cylinder VP pump. If you find them, buy 2 sets and I'll buy one off of you! Good luck!!!!

From my research... larger nozzles are a waste of money.

I have had a boost gauge on my motor for years and have never seen the boost go about 9psi (.62 bar). My guess is that the turbo was spec's small to limit the output power.

My dailydriver is a VW TDI with a VP IP. The IP is equipped with a 11mm piston. I have gone the step to the 11mm piston because the injektion time was to long to became the injektion quantity for 170hp and 330Nm with a 11mm piston. The ECU agreement is very conservative in this condition.
As it may, the crucial step for the powerincrease was the exchange from 0,184 to 0,216 nozzles and the change to a modern charger with bigger dimensions.

HX25W is a bolton bigger than stock. Not much bigger. There is no need to upgrade nozzles on a benz engine...
