Which front sway bar for w201 with OM605 & four piston brakes? - Eric78 - 03-24-2013

Which front sway bar is the best to use? & any links to where I could buy aftermarket sway bars? I seem to be able to find all the suspension components except the sway bars.

Well, depends on what your trying to accomplish. Main thing is probably only a 2.6 or 2.5 Turbo with be the only bolt-on option. With a little modding you can use W124 sway bars see my W201 Project Thread but I'm using a OM603 so there's sway bar clearance issues and I have to use a W124 V8 sway bar.

Quote:W124 V8 Front Swaybar 'Trimmed' to fit along with W124 V8 'hooks' hung backwards with alittle trimming so now the swaybar clears the engine's oil pan

This is not the solution if your trying to achieve over steer or neutral balance for just a driver it's probably a safer setup, but it's going to take experimentation thicker sway bars will make the car under steer in the front and over steer in the back. It's going to be challenging with the heavy engine in the front for find the perfect setup. Maybe some way to adjust the pre-loaded tension on the sway bar for adjustment.

As for aftermarket, pretty sure it would have to be 100% custom one off. No company's that I know of are making sway bars for the W201.

w202 ones don't fit?

They will not, according to popular knowledge.

Something to cope with the weight, the turbo 605 & 722.6 are a little heavier than the current 602 & 722.4, also it will be able to brake a lot harder than it could with standard 190d brakes so I need something to help cope with brake dive.

These things could be improved with a higher spring rate, cut r129 SL500 springs might be what your looking for.

Might see what after market springs have to offer, cutting coils isn't really legal here(not that it really stops anyone).

If you're worried about body roll and dive, I'd start with spring rates. I know it's $$$ but have you considered the Ground Control coilover suspension stuff? You pick your spring rates.

Actually I'm now looking at Yellow speed suspension, almost all of there suspension is coilover except the 190e kit where the springs are still seperate but have adjustable cups.
