bringing my 2.88 diff back to life - JB3 - 06-11-2009

Last year I ordered up a 1985 2.88 SD diff from a national junk yard. It ended up being shipped from north country NY and was apparently removed by a team of monkeys.
It was severely punished in shipping as well. You can see in these pics how busted up the box was, and how instead of properly removing the axles, they first tried to pry them out, then ended up ripping apart the CV joint itself. They also bent all but one mounting studs.

The thing was in totally unacceptable shape and I decided to redo it before it went into the car. I tore it completely down, plugged off the ABS sensor which did not apply to my car, sand blasted it and had it powdercoated, then installed new seals and all new hardware, and put it into the car.
here it is powdercoated "azure" blue.

A couple more pics- here it is installed in the car, and viola!, the diff now has a new lease on life. The fresh powdercoat has really held up well to CNY salt issues. I brought it in for a 10,000 mile fluid change and its still looking solid.

Looks pretty. I put a replacement for mine in last weekend. No more humming. Here is why I needed it.
