standard injection pump om603 to om606 - magik - 06-05-2009

Do I need to upgrade from a pump injection turbo diesel om603 to apply it in om606 turbo diesel engine that had the power of 177hp?

if standard om603 turbo diesel pump injection is not efficient enough to get the full power of 177hp ???? Do I need to modify it ??? i need only 177hp power.

besides the electronic governor of the 606 also the plunger diameter is different (5.5mm for 603 and 6.0mm for 606). This will be point why you will not see the 177 hp with the 603 IP, even in a 606 engine.

If I IP Full Load Adjustment can reach the 177hp?

RE: standard injection pump om603 to om606 - SurfRodder - 06-06-2009

probably not... as Tom said, the element size is different. As I understand it, that extra .5mm allows for the injection of a significant amount of fuel... why are you trying this swap? if you let us know what you are doing, some one will probably come up with *something* to help you out.

RE: standard injection pump om603 to om606 - magik - 06-06-2009

I want to install om606 in the w201 and I want have 177hp power.

one guy said that at the pump full load adjusting with om603 turbo diesel get 175hp power.

RE: standard injection pump om603 to om606 - tomnik - 06-06-2009

assuming your 606 needs a replacement IP and this is not available only one out of a 603, I would try to run the car temporary with the 603.
This needs some skill maybe you better try to find the original one.
In case you are making some other modification such as swaps (engine and tranny) and your motivation is to avoid electronic trouble then I would go for the lower power of the 603 IP and later upgrade the complete system (turbo, exhaust, intercooler,...).
Let us know what is the reason behind your question.

wants to have a om606 in w201 without electronics and want to have around 170-180 hp power

I dont want modify the injection pump because it's expensive operation. I want use the original mechanical pump with a different engine

O.K. now we are getting closer.
In my opinion with everything perfect except the IP (just maxed out) it might be possible to get 170 hp maybe more but at least the IP brings the big step.

Would it be a problem to translate elements from 6mm pump om606 to om603 mechanical pump??

not from technical point of view...
But needs special tools and a bench adjustment.

better not to modify the pump because it will be costly. I hope that it will work correctly without modification.

this method http://superturbodiesel.com/std/ip-full-load-adjustment-procedure-for-mw-pumps-t-189.html for full adjusting is good ???

this is a very good write up, but it is not a point to point list for tweaking an IP by an unskilled person. It helps to understand, once understood it also indicates roughly what to do but with individual variations possible. Beyond a certain level of required power and/or requirements on emissions you will need the advice of a specialist equipped with special tools and a bench.
Record all modification and check (road test) after each single modification.
Do not dream of following the write up with an IP on the table, install it and see a perfect result immediately.

in the G-wagen forums, I hear people looking specifically for the mechanical IP from the 3.5L 603 engine to mate with the 606 3L engine. The reasoning being that the IP from the OM603 D3.5 moves a little more fuel than it's 3L counterpart.

RE: standard injection pump om603 to om606 - ForcedInduction - 06-08-2009

That is due to tuning. They use the same pump model.

I am trying to get the e300 IP elements into a 617 m-pump. If it works, it should for the 603 as well.

If I could get a cheap 606a I`d try, cause I have a 603a with broken pistonrings.
If only the rain could stop, I want to get the pistons out, only lift the engine and pull out the sump, then take out the pistons, but rain rain rain.......
