help supercharger - mao76 - 10-14-2012

boys, eaton m90, doesn't succeed in finding, in italia I find alone mercedes m62, can use this for the my double turbocharger it systematizes, I should join him/it to a garrett gt3582 to do around 400hp. will he/she succeed' the superchrger m62 to load in low, or end smoll?

RE: help supercharger - Simpler=Better - 10-15-2012

I don't know, but the other guys on here might know a little more. Here is the compressor map:

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-15-2012

I thank you, maio I don't know how to read the map, I would want to know if someone here in the forum you/he/she has made a combining of the kind, that is' m62 with a turbocharger type gt35 or hx40, to have on the 400hp

RE: help supercharger - OM616 - 10-15-2012

The M90 is too small for as much air as the diesel pumps through it. It will peek too quickly and not produce enough to make it worth the load on the engine.

IMOP, nothing smaller than a M112 would be worth putting on a diesel, and even then you will be spinning it way up on the top end.

The faster you spin a blower, the more heat it generates. You are better off with a larger blower so you can use a better pulley ratio, and less heat.

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-15-2012

then I should use a m112 combined to a hx40 or gt35, I don't succeed in finding from my parts these used superchargers, new they cost too much, you have someone for me, to this point I feels like replacing supercarger with turbocharger, type, gt2254 with gt3582r a po difficult to check

You can find M112 blowers on ebay (in the USA anyway) all day long.

I think you would be happer with a turbo set up.

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-16-2012

I am also thinking to a holset hy40vgt however' I don't know well the measures

RE: help supercharger - erling66 - 10-17-2012

Here are my advise: M62 too small. M90 about right and M112 too big(based on my calculations)
If you don't have a lot of tuning experience, go for a HX35(or similar) Mantahead got 385Hp out of that one on a 605. Can be found used on Ebay or Jeemu can get you a new one. Forget the VGT(heavy junk made for buses Smile )

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-17-2012

then a m90 and a holset hx35 I should use, but do I want to do on the 400hp but a turbocharger twin scroll with valve that I/you/he/she think of it?.to close a duct for the lower part turns, to open for tall turns type this,[Image: picture0073t.jpg]

IMOP, with a blower, bigger is better. Bigger means lower pulley ratios / slower rotor speeds. My rule of thumb when selecting a blower for a performance engine is, if it has to be run over 75% of its capacity at full power, then it is too small for the application.

I recall a common complaint about the M90 is that it runs out of capacity at about the transition point, causing a flat spot in the boost curve, plus, the M90 was a heat pump that last 25% of its range.

I would think one would want the blower and turbo boost ranges to over lap quite a bit, instead of one falling off as the other just starts coming in.

Unlike a big turbo, a big blower will not lag on the bottom end.

JMOP Smile

RE: help supercharger - 2996 - 10-17-2012

Until you've tried a VGT turbo, it would very likely change your answer Smile Especially, if you tried one without a proper controller that is
really needed to get the true performance benefits out of a VGT turbo. You can do all sorts of neat things like have full boost control
at nearly any engine speed, or vehicle or gear speed, close the vanes/control ring adding back pressure and engine braking while slowing
down the car, less back pressure during cruising for better mileage, and more power with less boost pressure and turbine drive pressure.
This also allows a very effective and fast, boost based traction control system, easily tuned via the controller.

These turbos do work very well, but you really cannot get their performance realized by themselves as they are really part of a system that
includes a controller.

I've even used a turbo flow rated on a gasoline engine for 1K whp, that began charging at only 2K rpms, with 1 bar seen at 3K rpms, all on a 2L,
16 valve gas engine. They are nothing short of amazing.

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-17-2012

then from what I have understood it will be' a job complicao to tune in the two chargers....I could also use turbocharger garrett gt3571vgt or gt3782vgt, perhaps the second fit e'piu to do on the 400hp

RE: help supercharger - erling66 - 10-18-2012

OM616: I agree with what you are saying. I haven't started my superturbo engine yet so I have no experience, just thoughts. I found the performance of the M90 and M112 to be so similar(M90 have to run faster but M112 drags more power from the engine) that the extra weight, size and cost of the M112, made me go for the M90.

mao76: I meant using the hx35 alone. If you decide to use a supercharger as well, maybe a hx40 will be good. The solution on your photo is cheap and ok but not the best.

2996: My comment was mostly meant as a joke to have fun with you VGT/VNT guys Tongue
No I have not tried, but as Jeemu said: No VGT will go on my car.
There are no doubt that he is the most knowable guy on the forum when it comes to high performance, but for a daily driver, you have some good pointsSmile

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-18-2012

then, a vgt is not all right, m112 and m90 I have found them to similar prices ,

RE: help supercharger - 2996 - 10-18-2012

I was just messing about with you erling66 Smile I also recall Jeemu stating that as well to me, and for maximum or full 0-400m drag-strip performance,
a large single is all you need.

Once I get my car to the dyno, I will share the results, which will hopefully be positive.

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-18-2012

and' never possibie that on the forum not us anybody that has used a vgt as holset he351ve or gt3571v?

Read old post's by Muuris. He had a Holset on a OM606 and wrote quite much about his experience.
Why not start with something easier and make that work fine. And if you still need more power, you can try something more complicated like 2 turbos or a supercharger and a turbo?

RE: help supercharger - mao76 - 10-18-2012

you have the discussion of muus I don't find her/it, with google traslated and' difficult
