I will be doing this soon! Word on the street is to stick it in the freezer for a day vs air drying for 3 days.

I picked up a $5 tube of poly urethane roofing and flashing adhesive, this was mentioned in a few other DIY's.

I was planning on doing this myself with some of the shore 70 that I have left. I don't expect much of a difference in driveline slop though. The trans mount as positioned doesn't resist driveline twist. It's so sloppy in stock form that I can't help but think that beefing it up w/poly will change the feel anyway.

I simply put a torn piece of an old mount and wedged it in the new one in my w123 and it was a world of difference.

Well, it must be tried then.

Slightly OT, but my shore 70 rear diff mounts have been holding up fine, but I'm still think my driveline has excessive slop. Since there's been zero NVH issues with the shore 70 rear diff mounts, I'm thinking I can use stiffer urethane without turning my Mercedes into a racecar.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the throttle lever on the RH (passenger) side of the pump has an unused ball mount on it. I assume the throttle damper can be attached here. I don't see another ball mount to attach the other end of the damper to though.

Got one curing now.

More details on your diff mount?

would this be used as an insert for a custom flex coupler?

RE: DIY Poly trans mount.... - winmutt - 11-24-2012

I suppose you could. I found a guy in 190rev.net that sells a pair of metal ones for $250.

So, my trans mount was a COMPLETE success. Shifting has never been smoother and there is no more lugging in stop and go traffic. The diff between the stock and the modded mount was significant. It did take 9 days to dry and even now the upper cavity is not quite dry. I made several mistakes. One, dont tape up both sides with naval jelly covered tape, it will never dry. Two, unlike some post on the internet, putting it in the freezer does not make it cure faster.

Otherwise I'd recommend this to anyone, I'd be happy to make some.

Glad to hear it worked out so well. I guess I'll have to order another mount to fill since I couldn't bear to park Plain Jane for the duration of the cure time.

What Shore did you use for this mount Winmutt?

I thought about making my own out of metal a few years ago... never got past that tho...
that makes sense, heat speeds up most reactions to a great extent... if its UV stable poly, I'd put it in the sun for a couple of days...maybe a bearing(toaster) oven would be good too.

these guys are local and i picked some of this up yesterday... im going to get another mount and do this soon too:
